Bama wins, 7-4!
First off, hit tip to Zane Adams who pitched his best game today (5 IP, 1 ER) since opening SEC play at Texas A&M. Hopefully, the extra rest and lesser pressure of the Sunday role helped some things click. He still wasn't a sharp as he can be, but overall,
much better. The bullpen pitched well too, but the defense let Hagan Banks down in the 6th (bad throw from second with 2 outs gave LSU an extra out and led to a 2 run HR, cutting into Bama's lead and making it 5-3 at the time). Ozmer got the ball in the 8th and struck out the side. The 9th didn't go as smoothly, which I was afraid of, but he got out of it giving up just 1 run (and earning his 13th save). Bonomolo Jr., who has been the unsung hero of the team this season, had the big hit for UA, a 3 run HR in the 3rd. Bama added single runs in the 4th and 5th, but squandered other opportunities (they left the bases loaded twice and had 14 LOB in all). Norton had an PH sacrifice fly in the 9th to bring in an insurance run. Lebron didn't have a hit, but his at bats were much better today overall and he had 3 hard hit balls in his first 3 AB's and worked a bases loaded walk in the 9th after going down 0-2, to bring in an additional insurance run. Kade Snell's bat stayed hot this series with a 2-3 day (plus 3 walks). In the
Ooooff category, Jason Torres was 1-10 in the series with 9 strikeouts (and 3 walks). IMO, it's past time for him to sit,
especially if Hodo isn't going to be a DH.
The big thing is, Bama leaves Baton Rouge at .500 (9-9) in the league. Next weekend, they get a really,
really bad (and winless in conference) Mizzou team at home. That's an opportunity Bama needs (must?) take advantage of and bank some wins, preferably all 3. You don't get weekends in the SEC like that very often.
