We are only 2 weeks into SEC play and while some of the above isn't surprising, there's a couple of head scratchers. Weeks 3 and 4 should tell use quite a bit about how much thus far as been schedule based results for some teams and which teams are actually contenders for one of the top spots in the league.

First off, let's look at the rankings (I use D1Baseball)...

1. Tennessee
2. Arkansas
3. Georgia
4. Florida State
5. Texas
6. Clemson
7. LSU
8. Oregon State
9. Oregon
10. Oklahoma
11. Wake Forest
12. Alabama
13. Dallas Baptist
14. Ole Miss
15. Southern Miss
16. Auburn
17. North Carolina
18. Arizona
19. Vanderbilt
20. Troy
21. UC Irvine
22. UCLA
23. Georgia Tech
24. NC State
25. Louisville

Upcoming SEC Schedule

Tennessee at South Carolina -
The Gamecocks are really struggling and now have to welcome arguably the SEC's best team to town. Paul Mainieri may end up wishing he'd just stayed on the beach.

Florida at Ole Miss - Florida hasn't just stumbled coming out of the SEC gate, they've been trampled. They are built to win though and can go on a run at any point. I expect them to find their footing in Oxford, but they better show up ready to play.

auburn at Georgia - auburn has been playing some good baseball. Georgia has been playing some great baseball. Can auburn cool off the UGA bats enough to steal the series? I doubt it, but it should be a good weekend of baseball in Athens.

Kentucky at Texas A&M - Like the Gators, the Aggies have not been playing anywhere close to their ability. Kentucky has taken a step back from last year's squad, but they are still good and don't beat themselves. The Aggies need to find a way to win this series, but at this point, just getting a conference W would be a start.

Arkansas at Vanderbilt - Vandy will have their hands full with the Hogs. Also, I hate Arkansas baseball fans.

Texas at Missouri - Texas gets to play the White Sox of the SEC.

Mississippi State at LSU - The Bulldogs need wins and I'm not sure LSU as quite as good as advertised right now. Would love to see MSU steal this series in Red Stick.

Oklahoma at Alabama - Bama is gonna want to bounce back and must defend their home turf this weekend. Losing another home series would be a difficult hole to escape if they want to finish near the top of the SEC. The Witherspoon brothers are a dynamic duo (led by Kyson) on the hill, but like LSU, IMO the team as a whole seems to be a bit overrated in the polls.

Watching Vandy @ UF right now... seeing Colby Shelton in a Florida uniform still irks me. He just hit a HR for them... he has 51 in his career now.

Vandy wins 11-3 and gets the sweep in Gainesville... The Gators are a mess... hopefully, they stay that way. Bama ends the regular season with a series at their place.

UofSC and State had their rubber match. UofSC led off the game with a hit on the first pitch and then didn't get another hit until the last pitch of the game, two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

The batter tries to stretch the hit into a double and over-slides second resulting in the final out. State 6-0 to take the series.

You can sorta see 3 groups/tiers of teams forming in the SEC as we near the halfway point of the league season. Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU, and (I'd include UGA) make up that top tier. I'd include Ole Miss with the middle tier. Easy to see who the bottom tier is, but... A&M, Florida, and MSU are all better than their records indicate. In Florida's case, their pitching has been terrible.

This week's SEC slate...
Mizzou @ Florida- Good news for one of these teams, someone has to get a couple of wins. Mizzou is terrible though, so my bet is the Gators out slugging them and taking the series.

South Carolina @ Texas A&M- Another series of bottom dwellers, but I can't help but think A&M's DH sweep in Knoxville may have finally got them jumpstarted.

#1 Arkansas @ #7 Georgia- This should be the series of the weekend in the SEC. UGA just got swept in Austin, but they are stout and play well in their little shoebox stadium in Athens. Arkansas is really good, but they've also had a pretty favorable league schedule so far.

#2 Texas @ Kentucky- The Longhorns are on a roll right now... they've swept 3 of their 4 SEC opponents thus far.

#3 LSU @ #11 auburn- This should be another good series, but it feels like LSU is starting to heat up with the weather like they always seem to do. They are 2nd in the league in batting and 4th in pitching, and the pitching is getting better and better.

#5 Tennessee @ #6 Ole Miss- IMO, the Vols are better and should win the series. I'd love to see Ole Miss do it, but Tennessee is going to come in pissed off after this past weekend. It's not a great time to catch the Vols if you're Ole Miss... Vitello is going to want to make a statement.

#17 Vanderbilt @ #19 Oklahoma- This should be another fun series. Vandy's bats aren't great, but their pitching is good and they don't beat themselves. The Sooners have lost 5 of their last 6 SEC games and need to get back on track.

Mississippi State @ #12 Alabama- State has had trouble finding their footing this year though they did win their first SEC series this past weekend at home against (a pretty bad) South Carolina. This is a series Alabama needs to win at home. A sweep is asking for a lot, especially with how the starting pitching has been lately, but Bama needs to cash in at home. This is a good opportunity to so that.

Oh @Brandon Van de Graaff the ability to just copy and paste tables like this should be back soon. It worked up until we moved to a cloud based server. As soon as the tweaks were made so it would work again, upgrade. I started looking at it again and saw another upgrade was coming: a major one for both the web based site and the app. When I asked I was told the new version would be release in Q4 of 24 or Q1 of '25.

And, as it would be, another is on it's way soon. In the past where I'd ask to have an update ran, the new server folks do it as soon as it comes out.

This week's SEC schedule...

Missouri @ #18 Alabama - A huge opportunity here for Alabama. Not often in SEC play do you get a team that's as overmatched as Mizzou, and Bama gets them at home. A sweep would put Bama 3 games above .500 going into the home stretch. Bama needs to get that sweep, and hopefully get the bats cranked back up while doing so.

#10 Georgia @ #14 Oklahoma - Both are sitting at 10-8 in league play... should be a pretty good series. IMO, UGA is the better team, but they are winless on the road their since sweep over Florida a month ago.

South Carolina @ Kentucky - The Wildcats seem to be finding their groove a bit after a slow start. They played Texas tough 2 weeks ago and just took the series from Tennessee in Knoxville.

#5 Arkansas @ Florida - Arkansas is leaking a little oil after their fast SEC start that saw them go 11-1. They've since lost their last 2 series to Georgia and Texas A&M. Florida on the other hans started off terribly and has won their last 2 series, but Arkansas will be a step up and more like the teams they were not beating previously.

Mississippi State @ #11 auburn - auburn went from sweeping LSU to getting swept by Texas. They've played really well at home this season though. State has talent, and they are better than their record indicates, but this will be an uphill battle for them.

#6 Tennessee @ #7 LSU - This should be the series of the weekend.

#9 Vanderbilt @ #23 Ole Miss - Should be another good series... Vandy is starting to warm up.

Texas A&M @ #1 Texas - The Aggies have finally found their footing after an awful start... they've won their last 3 series (Tenn, SC, & Arky). The drama of Schlossnagle facing his former squad will add to what is already an intriguing series.

This is why I asked. What is up with Mizzou?

Brandon. Come on. We are at the 21st of April, and they haven't won ONE SEC game?

(There is an em-dash in over—matched according to the software...written in Germany. If you were wondering about the red line...)

For starters, their team ERA is over 9.00. And their hitting isn't much better, certainly not enough to make up for that poor of pitching. Even in their midweek games, they are having to outslug teams and hope for the best. It's a bunch of t ball scores.
