🏈 Ballou and Rhea take over UA S&C program

I have wondered about that. Assuming Mac beats out Bryce for the starting job (as I believe he will) then he should have a phenomenal year with everyone we have. Heard a lot from folks that Mac was not the starter just because of Tua, and not in the standard he got beat way but in the Tua is almost a generational talent that anyone would have trouble beating way. It's like sitting behind Brady in NE, most anyone is going to sit in that case.

In industry you get escorted out if you are fired. Usually you can choose to go to another company and give a 2 week notice. You have 2 weeks to say your good byes. At least in my world that is how it works.

If you're leaving for a non-competitor, I agree. But if you're leaving for a competitor you're normally shown the door. Nobody wants you sticking around and making copies of files, prospect lists, product plans, etc. There's nothing you can do within two weeks that is a benefit to the company.

After hearing the details and some thought this is the way I see this. If CNS had thought he was irreplaceable he would have created a position on the field for him. Obviously he did not. SC hit Kiffin up for a job so this was only a matter of time. We will get a quality replacement and move on. Nothing is forever things change.

CNS couldn't create an on-field position for him because there are NCAA limits to how many on-field coaching positions each school can have. The only way CNS could do this would be to get rid of somebody.

This ^^^^^

We have seen Saban move things around and get people to come/stay etc when he wants to. IF Saban wanted Cochran to stay, Coch would have stayed. I think the off field position vacated by Burton Burns is still open. Saban could have moved Coch there and then moved into an on the field position in the future when a vacancy happens. Either way, I don't blame Cochran for moving in this direction, if he felt like this was the only way he would get to move to an on the field job. He and Kirby have been tight and while I think that Kirby has an ulterior motive, Coch is doing what he feels is best to make the next step towards becoming a HC.

That's what was implied I should have said shuffled the staff. I'm pretty sure CNS knew this was coming at some point.

1. Kirby wasn't a snake in this situation. Some rumors out there that Saban knew it was going to happen for a while.
2. Scott called around to see what was opening up.
3. the Kiffin thing was legit.
4. It was time for Scott to move on. the program became stale over the years.
5. Adding Scott to the ST role doesn't change a thing for Alabama and Georgia.

Wes Neighbors has a radio show here in Huntsville. He just made a comment that if you have seen LSU's strength program and Alabama's as he has, it is obvious that Alabama has fell behind.

Where is Conner? Where did he attend college? Why? How did Wes feel about Conner not being at Bama?

Questions that should be considered when weighing the opinion voiced by Wes on his radio show, right?

Not sure I'd say that LSU's S/C program led by a guy in his late 50's is ahead of Alabama.

What changed in the last 10 years? Hell, most of the time their gassed hands on their hips in the 3rd quarter, getting owned at the line, etc.

Sure LSU has upped their game, but Wes's son went to LSU and is on the S/C team at LSU to @TerryP point.

Don’t know if this is relevant or not, but our injuries have significantly increased (or at least appeared to) over the last several years...seems like especially knees...is that related to S & C?

I agree. It sure seems like we have been getting gassed in the 4th quarter more often against the higher level competition as well. People I've spoken with seem to concur with the "it was getting stale" commentary. Time for some fresh energy in the S/C program.

Hate to admit it as well, but I've been thinking this exact same thing. Wasn't sure if I was just being negative, but apparently others think the same thing.

Mac is very good QB. He would be a starter for several of the teams in the SEC. He is that good to the point where if he has a good season, He will be 1st round pick in 2021.

There is also the point that part of the defensive issues discussed are a direct result of the fact that offensive football and the rules that govern it have changed, and what we're seeing is a direct result of this "new era of offensive talent." It's a QB's game now.

For some reason that is unknown to me we have a large number of the fan base that pointed to these very things several years ago—the majority of the time pointing to Big-12 types of offensive approaches—and yet won't give their earlier beliefs the time of day, today.

It's hard for me to make a list of guys who I believe are the best in the business for S&C. Some, like Feld at Oregon, are taking what's labeled as a "Science" approach versus the MTAQ mantra we heard for several years.

Tommy Moffitt falls in the latter category in my view but having said that I have to give him a hat tip: he's one of the better S&C guys in collegiate football.

What's Saban looking for? Considering the three programs guys he's looked at work with—IU, KSU, and UO—it appears to me he's headed for a more scientific approach versus brawn.

It's my opinion he needs that type of move. While there are things we can point to that a new approach would bring the one thing that crosses my mind is the "Rah, Rah, Scott" approach (if he tried to put Wilson Love in as an example) wouldn't be the right move. It's my believe the players would do well with a Cochran 2.0 approach.

When the defense can't stop an offense and stays on the field much longer than "normal," it will make them gassed. Is it a conditioning issue or a defensive quality issue.

Cochran will be missed for more than his S&C efforts. Good luck to him. CNS will find a replacement as good or better.
