The NFL announced New York Giants defensive end Ryan Anderson has been suspended without pay for the first six games of the regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Performance Enhancing Substances. Anderson can play on Sunday against the Patriots, but would not be eligible to return to the active roster until Oct. 18.
Wow. I'm not saying Newton was who he used to be or even a guy I thought was good, but that's a ballsy move to dump a veteran with his size and roll with a rookie. Good for Mac. Patriots probably loving that draft luck and decision. 49ers and Shannahan are looking even more dumb than they looked on draft night after taking Lance. A little spit in the face of all the media that were pushing Mac to the back as well.
The Vikings are preparing for third-year tight end Irv Smith Jr. to miss the entire season after he underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a meniscus injury.

Practice-squad players must be paid at least $9,200 per week during the season, and if they have two seasons of NFL experience, the rate rises to $14,000 per week. Those are minimums; players can be paid more.
