About LSU

  • The media panel of regional and national media picked the Tigers eighth in the preseason standings poll announced at SEC Tipoff in October
  • Coach Matt McMahon has now won 43-of-50 games dating back to the start of the 2021-22 season. McMahon was 31-3 last year at Murray State and is 12-4 this year at LSU.
  • McMahon won the last 19-of-22 conference games he has coached entering the weekend, going 18-0 last year at Murray State in the OVC and 1-3 in the SEC this season to date. In his eight years as a head coach, McMahon is 94-34 in conference games.

  • This will be the first time LSU is set to play four consecutive games in the SEC regular season against ranked opponents since the 1967-68 season (Pete Maravich's sophomore season) when the Tigers lost to No. 9 Kentucky (121-95), No. 7 Vanderbilt (99-91), at No. 10 Kentucky (109-96) and No. 6 Tennessee (87-67)

  • LSU has played three games of 10 points or less with a 3-0 record in those games

If you were wondering, LSU is a Q3 game with a NET ranking that's 36 spots lower than Kentucky, 82 spots lower than Arkansas. As of yesterday, Alabama still has seven Q1 games left to play.

Going out on a limb and saying this team won't fold like a bad card table like last year's. This is a solid and very deep bunch. I know Miller is something special, but I'll tell you that Mark Sears is the key IMO. From what I see, they play together as good as I've seen in a while in Tuscaloosa. About every player on the team can step up, making it difficult for teams to key on one player. They proved that against the Hawgs on the road. I believe this is the kind of teams NCO develops and builds. It's good to see it paying off..... CNO needs a new state of the art sandbox and a big raise IMO. :)

You see -15½ and think, "that's HUGE" even if it's a home game, right? On the other hand, over the last five games the average margin of victory for Bama has been a bit over 18 points, I believe. The NET rankings aren't a "be all, end all" power ranking system. I do find it of note that four of the last five have been games won against teams with a higher ranking than what LSU currently carries.
