A threat for the National Championship, which was the discussion, so let's say past the first round of the Playoffs.

They lost their best back and have a quarterback you have never been high on if I recall.

All three has different QBs this fall.
It is OM even if Kiffin is an upgrade. I know conceptually that should have no bearing on what happens this year but hard for me to believe Kiffen can overcome some of the OM tendencies and his own issues.

I certainly hope historical culture is a real thing for Bama's sake.

Nonconference schedule might bite OM if they are a bubble team, it's putrid. I think they lose at least two of their first twelve, there are five-six likely/potential games that they could lose (KY, SC, LSU, OK, GA, FL), at least two get them. Hope springs eternal for football in the State of Mississippi as they are both dodging Bama for the first time in fifty or sixty years, but they have a hard row to hoe.

I've said before that, given Bama's nonconference scheduling, we will never miss the playoffs with two or fewer losses. OM, with their weak nonconference schedule, may prove the opposite.

EDIT: Forgot I'd looked this up already...first time not playing State since 1947, OM since 1987, so 77 and 37 years.

RTR,

Tim

Losses to LSU, Oklahoma and Georgia and maybe Florida but who knows about those guys.
In terms of difficulty: UGA, LSU, OU, and then UF.

UF: I don't see Napier lasting another season.
OU: I haven't seen any threat from the Venables staff to date. Their schedule can become brutal, quickly. I can see them starting off 3-0 and I can also see them at the midpoint of the season at 3-3. There's a realistic chance they don't win a game in October.
LSU: A benefit to the Tigers if this is a night game. TX vs OU will have the early game; who gets the afternoon slot on ABC? On the other hand, Lane isn't scared of them or Kelly: neither are the Rebel football team. What is he? Two of three since he's been in Oxford? He's .500, at worst case scenario.
UGA: I don't think they can win this one: stranger things have happened.

Through those lens ... they could get through those with one loss.

Not to hijack the thread, but how good is Georgia going to be this year? Their defense should be top tier again. It usually is under Kirby. But they lost a generational talent in Bowers, and an elite receiver in Mconkey. Even with a returning QB, I wonder how they will score points. Last year Bower and Mconkey saved their season on multiple occasions.

Did I read somewhere a while ago that incoming freshman Noah Carter would move from DE to TE?
He played both sides of the ball in high school. He's been listed as an ATH and a LB. He's perfect for Wommack's "Bandit." I could see him as the "Wolf," or the "Sting."

When he was officially listed on UW's roster he was an EDGE.

Also 5-star OT Haywood is setting up an Official Visit for May 31st recently. Two big O-line candidates for us and definitely trending for DeBose from what I'm hearing. Haywood has been getting a lot of hard push from the Tide staffers recently also, I talked about him doing well in recent camps, he wasn't extremely recruited at the national level until recently. Bama got in there early after watching his tape and before his Camp performance they had called and chatted with him about things. Seems he was on Courtney Morgan's radar before anyone else knew he was a beast.

One that I've said is a big flip target for the staff and seems to be trending in that direction is Caleb Cunningham 5-star MSST guy locked in his OV to Bama for June 21st so far and has visited recently and was absolutely blown away by the culture, the coaches, facilities, and the campus. I still like where Bama stands with this guy. I know MSST and Lebby have made it their life's mission to keep him in-state and with them, I think we'll like our position come signing day.

Jackson Lloyd, not really a big stretch to assume that he's taking another visit to Bama and not really mixing in much visits elsewhere where he's going to end up. He was a target for Washington, he loved the staff, he's a target for Bama, he loves the staff. More of a when, than an if here. 4-star OL, been moving up a bit was recently upgraded from 3 to 4-stars on most recruiting sites.

Keep an eye on Marcus Harris - he is part of the Mater Dei to Bama group that has been so successful for us. Texas liked their position with him about a month ago but I'm hearing that's not very solid at all. Another target Bama and the staff are fairly confident they have a shot with. All eyes are on his visit on April 6th.

On3 has a big comprehensive list of visitors, a ton are coming in this week. Also Ryan Williams, Noah Carter, Amari Jefferson, Jay Lindsey and QB Reese will be visiting again for A-day (Alabama Signees)
