Breaking: Alabama lands elite in-state LB Robert Woodyard

Alabama added a big piece to its 2022 class on Thursday in four-star inside linebacker Robert Woodyard of Mobile (Ala.) Williamson, as first reported by BamaOnLine. Woodyard chose the Crimson Tide over offers from Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, and many others.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Woodyard is rated the No. 2 inside linebacker and the No. 58 overall player in the country, per 247Sports.

"This is an elite player," Williamson head coach Dedrick Sumpter told BamaOnLine. "I'm talking about this guy's size, he's cerebral, he's intelligent ... man, there's so many adjectives I could say. He's a good kid. His ceiling is so high because he's a basketball player, too. He was third-team all-state in that. You're talking about a guy that's 6-2, 220 with that kind of skillset. He fits the mold. He is a typical Alabama linebacker."

Outside linebackers coach Sal Sunseri is credited with the addition as he continues to have success in the Mobile area recruiting for the Tide.

The in-state linebacker is the second commit in UA's 2022 class, joining elite defensive end Jeremiah Alexander out of Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson.
