I think we could find an FBS opponent to serve as a "cupcake" rather than going to FCS teams. It just doesn't look good to be honest we have no business playing them.

If our non conference opponents were, say; Wake Forest, Illinois, Kansas and Colorado, we would be playing teams from the power 5 conferences, which are by definition not cupcakes, yet we would have the same probability of winning as if we were playing four FCS teams.

For the most part, the cupcake percentages are tilted, since the B1g, Big 12, and PAC 12 play nine conference games (I wish the SEC did) and thus have less room for cupcakes than the SEC and ACC.
