Five-star wide receiver Chris Black (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast) will be making his college announcement a little sooner than what was once thought.

The 6-foot, 175-pounder is now scheduled to pick between Alabama and Florida State during a live broadcast on ESPNU’s College Football Blitz Friday. The show will air starting at 4:30 p.m. eastern.

Black has gone back-and-forth between the Seminoles and Crimson Tide, who have fought several epic recruiting battles this cycle thus far, throughout the process. He has been on the record at different points in the process with Alabama and Florida State both leading. It is believed his commitment will go right down to the wire.

“Every time I go back to Alabama, I come back and tell my teammates how different it is there,” Black told BamaOnline.com after his most recent trip to Tuscaloosa.

Black is the nation’s No. 19 overall prospect and No. 2 wide receiver prospect. He’s the third-ranked player in the Sunshine State for the 2011 class.

FWIW The Gator chat-guy Jason Higdon (does their recruiting and he is usually right and fair) is saying Black to Bama.:panic:

Michael (can't think of his last name) who covers high school teams in Florida is saying the same thing.

With Jameis, it was his dad. With Chris, it's his mom. The staff has been paying close attention to her questions and thoughts lately.

I'm thinking the tea leaves look good for us.

Winston stated that the his FSU decision was known by the coaches well before the announcement. With that the case, and given CNS' long-standing pattern of conveniently timed announcements (i.e. the way he has players hold their announcements until a time when extra value can be gained), I'm thinking that the a Black-to-Bama announcesment makes sense to counter any lack of the spotlight that may have occurred by JW going to Tallahassee.
