Some of the guys in my group asked me what we could we debate since it's kind of slow and my debate question was:

Which quarterback will figure out he's never seeing field and leave next?

Here's your choices.....

I think the guys who could potentially see play time eventually would be Morris or Sims, Bateman, Del Rio and McLeod... in that order. The others will be lost through the natural selection process of CNS. I hope Del Rio stays around. He seems to show a lot of intangible talent.

We all know Ely is gone and it is pretty realistic to say that Aldag, Ellison, nor Reed won't see the field. The question may need to be re-worded to ask which scholarship QB will leave next? Bateman, McLeod, Morris, and Sims all return next year as scholly QBs and Del Rio the invited walk on. Throw in Cornwell and that will give us 5 scholly guys and a highly recruited walk on.

Which is the kind of scholarshipped depth I like at the position. There is a log jam with the young guys considering we've had four enroll and start practicing since last June. Realistically, we could end up 'shirting three QB's this fall.

Here's the thing. If we want that two year starter at the position having three guys fight for that position isn't a bad thing.

Parker will be gone. I think its gonna be either a competition between Sims, Bateman, and Morris next year or Sims and one of the other two share the spot. Unless the freshman comes in and blows everybody out of the water.

QB situations can change in a hurry. We had Croyle, Pennington, Machen and Avalos in '04. We lose Machen and Avalos and pick up Guillon in '05 (or perhaps we had him in '04, too - can't recall). Croyle's ACL comes apart while we're crushing the Catamounts, Guillon doesn't measure up and we do our best with Pennington for the rest of the year. Pennington had some respectable games and was a tough ball player, and I appreciate his contributions, but the production we lost with Croyle's injury was too much to overcome.

In terms of predicting QB defections, I'm going to resist. Right now, they're all working hard to get better and make a difference, and they can look at history and current events to see how quickly playing time chances can change.

Oh lord, Marc Guilloin. I remember so many fans were so happy about him because "Miami recruited him" and my question was always "yeah and if hes so good why isn't he still there starting for them?" Pretty sure he was there in '04 but he had to sit out due to transferring.

I don't think Sims will ever be our full time starter.

I'm starting to get that feeling too, Saban seems to like his ability but gets frustrated pretty visibly with his decision making. He did the same with AJ but Sims is already a junior so I dont know if he'll ever turn that corner. I really, really wish he would tho because we haven't had a dual threat in a long, long time and he could add so much to our typical offense with the addition of the read option.

I wouldn't be surprised if Coach ran a dual QB system for a few games next year. I too would like to see Sims, the guy has stuck it out and hopefully he will excel and get the nod and give the others time to get comfortable. Either way we have a good core of QBs.

In case you didn't notice, AJ is listed on there.

I noticed that but took into account the context of the thread; which one won't see the playing field and leave.

He just grabbed the QB depth chart off of Rivals...at least it looks like that might be theirs. It's a Tidesports error if I'm right.

CNS's statement today.

We've looked at Cooper Bateman some. We've looked at Alec Morris. We've looked at Luke Del Rio. We haven't made a final determination as to who is third or whether we want to continue to evaluate them. I don't think any of them have really beaten Blake out, so he's the second. Blake has actually improved quite a bit as a passer. He's got a much better grasp of the offense. People could see last year that he adds a different dimension as a runner when he's in there. So that's still a work in progress as to who the third quarterback will be.
