🏈 Which Freshmen will start / see significant playtime

As Saban said in his presser, the positions that give you a shot are at receiver and in the secondary. He won't have to play that many as last year but make no mistake, if they are good enough and can grasp the system quickly, then they will be on the field.

You would think the first people to make contributions would be the guys with the greatest ratio of bulk-to-speed. These guys will see the field on special teams pretty quick.

Think Barron and Jordan from last year.

That said, guys like Nico Johnson and Tana Patrick and Rod Woodson. And probably a guy with some pretty low expectations - Mike Marrow.

I agree Gator. If you can run like and deer and knock the piss out of someone and have the lead in your pencil then you'll see the field. Special teams will see alot of contributors I would guess. The coverage teams are pretty simple. Stay in your lines and arrive in a bad attitude.

Dre Kirkpatrick is my safe bet to get the MOST playing time, but thats not to say others wont get there fair share.

im sure many others will makee a significant contribution, but Dre looks like that pure DB weve been needing.

Trent Richardson b/c he will be the Mark Ingram of last year if not better.

DJ Fluker, he will be starting LT by seasons end.

Tana Patrick, may fill the inside LB's position w/ McClain, allowing Hightower more on the outside to rush the QB.

Kirkpatrick b/c he will probably replace M Johnson.

I'm really hoping that at least one of our WR signees will stand out enough to see the field early. Were Kendall Kelly not anticipating some surgery he'd be a good candidate. Bowman or Norwood seem like the best chance for that part of our class.

My vote

I am very excited about A.J. I have had the opportunity to watch him play twice and he is a smart kid...not only the arm but he is a true student of the game...reminds me of a Peyton Manning type...takes control, knows whats going on, and knows what needs to be done. Doubtful we will see him this year but I feel he will be a great one one day. I think Richardson has Heisman potential if in the right system to showcase his ability.

Gettin excited already :D

I'm thinking:

James Carpenter
DJ Fluker
Nico Johnson
Petey Smith (wedgebusterrrr!)
Dre Kirkpatrick
Trent Richardson
Rod Woodson (along with Upshaw and Barron will make up one of the hardest hitting Special teams in the country... assuming he qualifies that is)
Michael Bowman
Kendall Kelly/Kenny Bell

not as sure about, but possibly:
Brandon Moore
Quinton Dial
Tana Patrick

just my thoughts at the moment. Could easily change.

the only certain redshirts i see right now are Orr, Bonds, Williams, and McKeller. several of our signees are just too good not to use on special teams.

the biggest contributors i see at this point might be Richardson, Kirkpatrick, Patrick, Carpenter, Sentimore, Johnson, and of course Fluker.

Richardson
Kirkpatrick
Fluker
Carpenter
Warmack
Kelly/Bowman(One of the incoming WR's have to make a impact)
Norwood(On special teams, guessing a move to secondary)

If Upchurch is out and Lacy qualifies... I would not be at all surprised to see him crack the rotation. He is VERY underrated IMO.

Last I heard he had to get his GPA up a bit and/or increase his ACT (because of the sliding scale).

Lacy is a downhill runner who is very fast and patient...he has good vision and hands out of the backfield, and is EXTREMELY hard to bring down. In HS he was a man among boys and few people made one on one tackles on him. He has been overshadowed by TR, but he is quite comparable.

Michael Bowman. If he makes it on campus he will start day 1 opposite Julio. We will have the best 1-2 WR combo in the conference and perhaps in the country. Bowman is a Julio clone, big, strong, fast and incredible hands. Right now he is listed at 6'4" but is closer to 6'5" and he is still growing. He was very undervalued during his senior year because of his grades and his coming to Alabama has been very underappreciated. He will be the star of the class next year. Enjoy it while it lasts because he will be gone in 3 years.

1.Nico(day 1, IMO)
2.Trent(day 1, due to lack of RBs and because of talent)
3.Warmack(I'm pretty sure, but we'll see.)
4.Lacy(if he qualifies, BIG if)
5.Dre Kirkpatrick(day 1, we need a tall CB)
*I know a lot of people think DJ will be a total force the first year. He'll be going against guys who have been playing the O-line for longer than one season, so there'll be some stiff competition to face in the summer. His size and arm length will be a huge benefit, no doubt.
*The WR corp will need a guy like Bell to be in the slants and some short passing plays. Kendall will be worked on during the season IMO, he has some serious competition.
Maybe, if I'm right, I can start labeling myself as a semi-pro football analyzer. I know one thing, Bama is building another dynasty that'll last a LONG, LONG time. :D

My first choice is going to have to be Dre Kirkpatrick. One reason I say so is because it just seemed like one of our major weaknesses last year was in our DBs. Marquis Johnson and Kareem Jackson are great players but they just seemed to get burnt too many times and were just sometimes outmanned. But with the raw size and speed coming in with Dre, I just don't see him not getting in next season.

I say without a doubt. Trent Richardson will get as many if not more carries than Coffee did last year. Flucker, Carpenter, and Warmack will all see time on the OL. Dre will see some nickle time to start then maybe work himself in as the starter later. Nico will go inside and Donta will push Fanney out as the starting Jack. I look for Jarell Harris to make a push on Reamer this year as well.. hell I am not even mentioning Patrick, Upshaw, Barron. Damn its nice to have depth again.

Your linebacker situation would look like this:

Don'ta Hightower at jack - NO experience (I'm aware he played the last bit of the Utah game there, but I don't really think that qualifies)

Nico Johnson - NO experience

Jerrell Harris over Reamer - No real experience

Rolando McClain - Junior.

I understand they are all talented players, but you are basically saying to take what was one of the top defenses in the country and completely change it. Keep in mind that Reamer, Fanney and McClain will all be gone after next year. Nico and Harris will get quality experience this year. Upshaw will be a great replacement for Fanney... I believe your way would push him to 3rd string. I'm not saying your theory won't happen, just that I hope it doesn't.

Also, not to sure if you were implying that Barron is a linebacker or not. He's a safety and has a really good shot at being a starter next year.
