🏈 What is the biggest SEC rivalry?

The way I see it? It depends on the fan.

Kozlowski and I have been in this conversation. He says Auburn, I say UT.

You ask a UT fan and some will say Bama, some Florida, some Georgia.

Georgia fans will have some say Auburn, some say Florida.

Florida fans might say FSU, or you might get a UT or UGA there as well.

South Carolina fans will claim UGA, but won't get that respect from Dawg fans. Ole Miss fans will say MSU, but also want to make their game against LSU a rivalry.

Mine run...

UT
Auburn
Georgia...

Auburn is a given. And Tennessee with the Fulmer thing sored to knew heights. Auburn and UT. BUT, in the last five years LSU has been a good one. I see it dying down once Saban beats that @$$ a few more times.

I would say for me personally its Alabama-Auburn easily because of how personal it is. There is only a handful of AU fans in my family and they get really annoying around this time and I can be just as annoying, especially if Bama wins. There were several ppl that flat out refused to answer their phones after last years game.

The Auburn game has always been big for me but the UT game took on a whole new meaning when Phat Phil started posing as a "G Man". i have a "few" family members that are Barners(only related by marriage; no orange/blue runs through my families veins) and I live on the Eastern side of the state close to the west Ga college that is the Barn. Alot of idiots over here in the Sylacauga area that believe orange and blue is so beautiful. Silly Barners!!!

I'm with TerryP and psychojoe on this one and say UA/UT.

I grew up in northeast Alabama close to the TN line so, to take a quote from Warren St. John's book " I would pull for Auburn, Notre Dame, and the University of Hell before you ever hear me utter the words to 'Rocky Top'."

The rest of the order on my list:

2. Bama/Auburn

3. Forida/UGA

4. Ole Miss/ LSU

Up and Comer: UT/UF

For overall intensity over a lot of years, though, it would be hard to beat Ole Miss/LSU.

After attending an Ole Miss/LSU game in Jackson Halloween weekend of 87, I might have to agree with you, pj, when it comes to fans. I have never seen so many fisticuffs break out in the stands during the course of one game. It seemed like every time the Ole Miss band struck up Dixie, that was a cue for a fight to start. Fans were literally rolling down the aisles swinging at each other--it was more entertaining than the game itself.

Personally, I loathe UT & Auburn the same, and it is almost impossible to distinguish which rivalry is more intense for me. I'm sure if I were living back in Alabama, then AU would get the nod, since one has to deal with Barner mentality there on a daily basis.

Then again, I was working in Chattanooga in '83 and had to endure a lot of Vol gloating that had previously been pent up for 11 years. That was not a fun time to be living in Tennessee after that game.

Of course, the six years I lived in Red Stick amongst the Corndogs (86-92), it was very important to me that Bama beat LSU to keep from having to listen to all that illogical Tiger fan logic--and this was when they had only one very old NC trophy in the case. :lance:

And with all my wife's family & relatives bleeding purple & gold, it will be the second Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners in a row that talk at the dining room table will be subdued once the topic of college football arises--that is until the whining begins about "the interception that would have won the game for them." :panic:

I'd still have to say Alabama/Auburn and up until the last couple of years, Alabama/Tennessee. Recently however, I think Alabama/LSU has taken on a life of its own. The disdain between the fan bases and the bitterness in losing to the other seems to be gaining in intensity.

The past couple of years its been LSU for me because there has been more at stake and of course the Saban factor. Auburn will always be a big game but since saban has dominated in recruiting and as long as chizik is around i dont see them being any threat.

Personally, I'd rather beat LSU than anybody. Bear facts, having lived in Baton Rouge, fully understands why. LSU fans cannot understand why we don't look at them as our #1 rival. That's how much they hate us. I love telling them that Auburn is Rival #1 and Tennessee is Rival #1a.

I have lived in Baton Rouge, La Place and Metairie. Found the LSU fans
to be warm and friendly as long as you don't try to rub anything in their face. Even took my wife's grandmother to a game in BR. Did have a few drunk fans cuss at us and try to start a fight but other LSU fans came to our defense and told the troublemakers to shut up and respect the grandmother. Quite nice because I was by myself with 3 generations of Alabama women. But hey, I forgot that these women have pluck and grit, what was I worried about

By the way we won the game, what a great night

But to answer your question I think the old Iron Bowl was the best.

now: not so much but very close between these

AU most hated (fans can be obnoxious)
UT next (because of Phat Phil)
LSU (always a tough game)

LSU-Florida has had the most riding on it the last few years; UGA-UF gets a lot of attention; and the Bama-LSU games have been great recently.

The 3rd/4th Saturday in October is the biggest, though. The two best programs in the SEC and two programs that hate each other.

Bama/UT and Bama/Aub are pretty close to each other to me. I grew up and live near the Tennessee border so it kind of fueled my hate for them...but growing up and even to this day I've had to deal with mostly Auburn fans... Hell, two of my three closest friends are huge Auburn fans. Life gets a little easier when they beat Auburn...and I still haven't finished rubbing last year in their face after the previous 6 years worth of crap I've gotten.
