🏈 What are your feelings on the National title game?

@RollTideinGA , @It Takes Eleven , but I'm almost certain that while the ball (or in this case pylon) cannot cause a fumble, receivers MUST demonstrate ball security before the ground may dislodge it. In this case, we are not talking about a receiver but a ball carrier. And it seems obvious that he is losing his grip BEFORE he crosses the goal line. Thus, ball security isn't established to justify the TD. I mean, I've seen this many times, not on special teams plays, but on offense in goal line situations. How many times do we see a RB try to reach across the goal line and if he loses control of the ball, it's ruled a fumble???

He has to be judged to have possession when he breaks the plane. That's what I saw. I saw the contact with the pylon causing the fumble, so it was impossible to not have broken the plane before the fumble. He can fumble a moment after breaking the plane (which he did). Maintaining control to the ground comes into play on pass receptions while in the end zone.

It's old news, but something I pondered a lot in the few days after the game. I'm glad the officials and replay guys saw it the way I did.

RTR,

Tim

I think there was a lot of sarcasm in the post @12gage made about Kiffin. At least, that's how I took his remark.

Kiffin had a bad game called against Washington and that's why the offense struggled.

Then I've seen ...

Alabama will have a hard time without Kiffin calling the plays ...

And I'm seeing ...

Hurts can't complete a deep ball so Bama's struggles with be due to a one dimensional quarterback.

Mike Golic has been on this rant about the ability of Hurts and Sark to communicate. I may have missed other's comments, but yesterday was the first time I've heard someone call Mike out on his statement. Kirk pulled a "not so fast" and went on to mention how much time these two have spent reviewing film. Granted, it's not a "game time" situation but it's far from two people just beginning to work with each other a week before the game.

Since Kiffin has been at UA the communication part that has always been an issue is actually getting the plays in. No idea how the actual relaying of the plays is going to change, but let's be real, it can't get much worse.

Even if there is 2-3 delay of game penalties that is about regular. Hopefully that part of the offense is made more simple so that the QB and OL can focus on their assignments as opposed to focusing on the sideline mimes doing the Macarena.

Do you think there's anything we can reasonably do to get this injustice fixed before it's just too dam late?

So .............. I've watched last year's natty several times ... the final quarter even more times ... and I've never noticed something before. I've rewatched Drake's kick off return many times and always thought it was legit. I guess my focus has always been on him staying in bounds, whether it was his feet or his left hand hitting the ground before the ball crossing the goal line.

BUT ... after watching this hype video I now think Drake lost possession before the ball crossed! And funny thing is I've never heard anyone else question it. And I don't even think it's questionable. Here's a screen shot.

He's still holding the ball in your screen shot...

Okay, my bad. I rewatched it, and from the front view it shows the ball remains in his grip as the front end of the ball dips down. From the side view, the ball appeared to dip downward due to a loss of grip. But the front view proves it was firmly in his hand. Lol, sorry carry on ...MyBad.PNG

I appreciate you making me watch that play another half dozen times. Between that and the onside kick, the twists in that game were incredible.

If that doesn't get your blood pumping, everyone should watch it one more time in Spanish. Soccer meets football:

I think there was a lot of sarcasm in the post.

I see it now, totally missed it...:-)

When Washington scored we immediately drove the ball the length of the field and we looked great doing it. Hurts looked like a million dollars running the ball and directing the offense. That is who we are and that is our QB's genius. He threw two nice intermediate passes on the drive and Bo literally blew through the LOS like a knife through hot butter. We easily could have bottled that drive the rest of the night with our game planning and run the huskies off the field. Again, everything we did on that drive played to our QB strength and identity and Hurts looked dominating in doing it. Only Kiffin knows why that is never, good enough.

Please don't think I'm down Hurts as QB comparing him to Watson. Experience is everything, especially at QB. And you are 100% spot on about the calls for Kiffin. What it seems to me that Kiffin missed this season as the OC is that he just cannot make the calls for a true freshman QB like he could for 5th year senior QBs. He just got too cute at times when simplicity is the heart of genius, especially for a true freshman QB who has shown astounding upside. All Hurts has to do is zero turnovers, no negative plays (penalties, running out of bounds for a loss, etc), & work for short 3rd down gains. If Kiffin had made that Hurts M/O then, there would/could be times where Hurts would be able to just burn opposing defenses (see UT game).

Right, Kiffin never figured out that with the Jimmy's and Joe's, less can be a whole lot more. Cute ends up being complicated, confusing, and our true freshman has been put into too many of those situations where Jalen was pressing, instead of being confident in something he has seen himself perform over and over with great success. All I want Monday is for Sark to give our guys and our QB an offensive scheme they are built for and let's them play like their hair is on fire.

Yup. They are pissed, it's coming...

I just hope it's a little more of a controlled confidence ass whooping. I didn't really care to see us on edge like I saw against Washington. Maybe they were playing dirty, but oh well, fuck them up in between the whistle instead of some extracurricular fighting. I can only imagine how Clemson's literal butthole fingering is going to be handled.

By the way, I hope Boulware gets flattened on every play. Gah I hate that guy.

WE had to have a miracle on side kick, a miracle kickoff return, two completely asinine blown coverages on OJ Howard, just to win last year. So our defense had better show up and show up strong or this is going to be a blow out.

I must admit you are making good points here. But I wouldn't say a miracle kick off return. I would say good players make good plays. I wouldn't say the onside kick was a miracle either-it'd been practiced many times that week so this was good coaching and good preparedness.

I would also say that while Watson is a great quarterback he absolutely had the game of his life with some amazing passes. He hasn't played that well in any game this year. I hope that pattern will continue!

lol miracle onside kick and miracle return? How the hell were those "miracles?" Drake just flat out outran everyone on the field on the return and the onside kick was absolutely PERFECTLY executed, theirs nothing "miracle" about that. And only one of OJ's TD's was busted coverage, the other one he just flat out roasted the DB. They are the ones that had to score late touchdowns to even have a chance.

Watched last year's game again with friends last night. Funny how you can get nervous about a game even though you know the outcome!
We got to Watson quickly throughout the game--he gets that ball out fast. I don't think we'll get to him any quicker. He played lights out against Bama last year making great throws into good coverage. What I've seen of him this year, not as sharp. Second half with Evans as a spy made him look human. Watson was just so quick to the first down markers and made Foster look like a D-lineman. Foster in his new Ferrari body won't have this trouble this year. All in all, watching the game made me feel better about our D matching up with their offense.
Not as worried about our offense. They have come through when needed. Saban/Sark will have them ready.

Watching it now... They had a miserable time trying to get plays off on time in the second half. Even when they tried to use the entire play clock they couldn't get lined up in time to snap the damn ball.

That was an incredible game. So much pressure and intensity! Big plays everywhere. Don't think I can withstand another one like it lol

I'm feeling good we're not playing a home game this week.
