| NEWS #WalkAwayFromNike, Bama! "Report: Nike Pulls Sneaker With ‘Betsy Ross’ Version of U.S. Flag After Colin Kaepernick Expressed Concerns"

I've seen the same groups adopt the OK hand symbol. Does that make me a racist if I use this?

Are they pledging allegiance to the 👌? Somethings just means more. Many a people from all over this globe value their countries flag as they do their own religion. Some people will tell you they make no distinction between the two. No doubt why Kaepernick struck a nerve. Here in the deep south, we as a group should be the last ones to wonder why that matters the way communities continue to clutch the confederate flag with both hands.

Are they pledging allegiance to the 👌?
Are people pledging allegiance to the Betsy Ross flag? I'm not sure what you're driving at here.

Somethings just means more.
And some things mean just what they are supposed to mean. In this particular case, people are ascribing things to the flag that are not the case.

Why were the stars on the Betsy Ross flag in circle? How did Congress describe the first flag of the colonies? The latter is "unity." The former, to show no state is above another.

What I find really interesting about this whole story directly relates to the area in which I live. There were many battle fought here in the Low Country in this countries fight for independence. What's ironic, is there were many blacks, both free and slaves, who lost their lives in those battles for our freedom. Yet, the line we're being fed here is "the flag represents slavery," and "it's represents white nationalist." To both I say bullshit. And, that opinion is backed up by how we've seen the flag used in the past few years.

A question that's been posed, but yet remains unanswered, is where was all of this angst when the same flag was used with another administration? It wasn't, because the narrative hadn't been contrived yet.

I would say they are, given some of the pictures posted on this thread.

Of course, in the bigger picture, what exactly does the Betsy Ross flag mean to the white supremacist these days? Not so much what an individual happens to think about that particular flag, in that is much more trivial and who knows what patriotism really means to each individual. Not really knowing the answer, I asked the question. It apparently does carry a double meaning today and history says as far back as at least the 1940s the KKK and other white extremists have been using it in their hate propaganda. Who knew? Turns out Kaepernick knows about what he speaks of.

I would say that the Betsy Ross flag could easily find itself in the same unenviable position as the Confederate flag these days. Both being used by white hate groups. You asked me about how some things mean more than others. Again, who could really answer that but the hate groups who feel the need to fly it high and proud.

In general, people hang flags of countries to denote patriotism and devotion. Something they are willing to die for if needed. Does that type of heartfelt allegiance represent these hate groups with the Besty Ross flag? It looks like they are draping it around themselves much like many other patriotic people in very different circumstances.

Narratives change as causes come and go. But we live in a politically correct society, even if morally, not that many people seem to care anymore. I would say this falls under that politically correct bubble this country has produced through an incredible diligent effort by the masses and considering all that, I would conclude Kaepernick has got a good point.

The one thing we know about political correctness is that eventually they eat their own... See what's happening to Joe Biden right about now.

You just can't be PC enough for everybody. Eventually Nike will fall victim... They're basically at CK's whim at this point. Could you imagine what happens when they DON'T do what he asks them to do?

It's a crazy but great country we live in. Support it... Don't support it... Or just sit back and watch it all unfold. These companies are allowed to take whatever political stance they want to take that's a beautiful thing. Also a beautiful thing that you we can decide what to buy and not buy. I have a lot of faith in our country as a whole that eventually the buyers will reward the people and companies that deserve it. Yes a few slip through the cracks but in general I believe people/corporations will make or break themselves over time... ROLL TIDE

I agree with a lot of that. But not to leave out the reason for the season. History books are jammed full of hate groups eventually biting the dust. Whether we leave out of here after a few pitiful years, pull a Hitler, or somebody gets us, the truth is we're still leaving.

The BR flag and all that have followed, were designed, sewn and displayed for the most honorable reasons. They are all inanimate objects. The spirit of these inanimate objects, whether they be burned, stomped on, pissed on, used as symbols of hate or seen as symbols of racism. Anybody that views our flags in any of those ways listed, are all ass wipes, degenerates. All of our nation's flags were designed and flown for the most noble reasons imaginable. If anyone thinks otherwise, they have a lot to learn.

so true

people associate things with hate too easily. instead of looking at the ENTIRE history of it, they decide to note only the hate that came about when a certain group of people decided to use whatever item is in question.

the kkk wore white....does that mean that anyone who wears anything with white on it is a racist? the nazi colors were red and black...does that mean that the university of georgia, or any other school that uses red and black or anyone who wears those 2 colors together, is a nazi...or hates jews?

what about the flag's colors? they used red, white, and blue. so does the united england. so does france. so does the central african republic.

some have additional colors, but they all have at least the 3 previously mentioned colors:

australia
azerbaijan
belize
cabo verde
cambodia

You apparently don't understand why these hate groups want to rally around a certain flag. The raw emotion it invokes in people throughout history is well documented. You don't start a war, fight a war, or recruit a war without a flag that people will rally around. These hate groups want a war, their war. And they want the same type of emotional fanatics to fight it as any nationalistic country. If they happen to choose a flag, or flags, in this case, that already invokes plenty of raw emotion, historically, for whatever reason, they are just that much further along in what they hope to get done.

You brought up the Nazis, take a little deeper look at what they were able to accomplish with their brand new German flag. When folks see this symbol today, what kind of reaction does it usually invoke?

It's not a happy symbol for everyone that had to live through the death march of the Third Reich and Aryan supremacy.

But the real truth is the hooked cross predates Hitler by 5000 years. Its symbol is found in almost all world cultures. It's been a sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddism, it's a common sight on temples and houses in India today and the hooked cross has been found on all kinds of artifacts in Europe. The swastika was a strong symbol among Native Americans in the United States, found on their teepees and other artifacts. The hooked cross predates Christianity by at least 3000 years.

In 10 years time, Hitler took a very common hooked cross that has been around for 5000 years and turned it into a German swastika flag and completely changed the meaning for billions of people.

I would conclude that how people use flags and what they accomplish with them has everything to do with how others view that flag. Common or not.

@planomateo, if I'm looking at this correctly, the US before Navy gets them the "bye" on that logo. I'd think the N is licensed. There may be different rules set for Armed Forces branches and their logo's. I wouldn't think so, but you never can tell.

It's a G R E A T hat, easily my favorite hat. Lightweight, breathable, comfortable, and has the US Navy logo AND a US Flag patch. Easily the best looking Navy hat I've ever seen and it's not even close.

My second favorite hat, the Columbia Alabama Bora Bora Booney hat, I have about 5 of these .

It won't be on my head long if it doesn't breath really well.
