the kkk wore white....does that mean that anyone who wears anything with white on it is a racist? the nazi colors were red and black...does that mean that the university of georgia, or any other school that uses red and black or anyone who wear those 2 colors together, is a nazi?
You apparently don't understand why these hate groups want to rally around a certain flag. The raw emotion it invokes in people throughout history is well documented. You don't start a war, fight a war, or recruit a war without a flag that people will rally around. These hate groups want a war, their war. And they want the same type of emotional fanatics to fight it as any nationalistic country. If they happen to choose a flag, or flags, in this case, that already invokes plenty of raw emotion, historically, for whatever reason, they are just that much further along in what they hope to get done.
You brought up the Nazis, take a little deeper look at what they were able to accomplish with their brand new German flag. When folks see this symbol today, what kind of reaction does it usually invoke?
It's not a happy symbol for everyone that had to live through the death march of the Third Reich and Aryan supremacy.
But the real truth is the hooked cross predates Hitler by 5000 years. Its symbol is found in almost all world cultures. It's been a sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddism, it's a common sight on temples and houses in India today and the hooked cross has been found on all kinds of artifacts in Europe. The swastika was a strong symbol among Native Americans in the United States, found on their teepees and other artifacts. The hooked cross predates Christianity by at least 3000 years.
In 10 years time, Hitler took a very common hooked cross that has been around for 5000 years and turned it into a German swastika flag and completely changed the meaning for billions of people.
I would conclude that how people use flags and what they accomplish with them has everything to do with how others view that flag. Common or not.
