Hell, I am not sure who I want as a DC but I, for one, am glad Golding is at Ole Sis. He may not be responsible for the defense looking like crap at times but the buck has to stop somewhere and as much as you guys like to beat up on the GOAT sometimes, I refuse to be a willing participant.

I know some want Pruitt and I am not sure baggage even matters when it comes to coaches any longer (especially after taking a sniff of that A&M staff) but I can see how he would be easy fodder for other teams and their fan bases. If the NCAA requires a show-cause after they throw the book at UT and we hire him, how would that work? I rather build my foundation on something a bit more solid than the Pruitt shifting sand.

Schumann is appealing not because he is a slam dunk (and he very well be) but because my goal is to piss UGA and its fanbase off when possible. They have Muschamp. What else do they need? LOL I will have to rely on the judgment of those that know more about his coaching but based on everything I have seen, heard and read I really hope he makes the jump back home.

To me, this is the interesting part of your wishes on who we see hired—and you've summed it up nicely.

But he's never had the job.

Lupoi was the co-DC in Tuscaloosa in 2017; he'd spent a year as the LB coach if you recall. He was working alongside Pruitt; "on the job training." We saw the issues in 2018 which led to him being in Cleveland in 2019. That should elicit a little hesitancy.

To add a bit here ... this is also where Leonhard makes a better choice. While the scheme is a little different (Aranda's 3-4 concepts) at least he has experience in the 3-4 scheme. While I'm a little pessimistic about his experience with offenses that are seen weekly in the SEC, at least there's the fact he's ran a defense by himself.
He's been Georgia's play caller all season, I'm sure Smart has put his hand in there some, but he's raved(and so has Muschamp) about his play calling ability. You can see him on the sidelines giving the defense the playcall in some of the games. It's significantly different with Schumann than it was with lupoi. Lupoi never called plays prior to the 2018 season. That's why that "Co" tag is stupid to me, they're paying Schumann scraps to what he should be making. It helps to have a guy like Muschamp to help with in-game situations, and preparing the week prior. But you always pay the guy calling the plays, always. And if we can't land Schumann, I'm fine with Leonhard.... that is if he wants to come coach at Alabama, he may be getting an NFL job soon.

I can see Muschamp and Kirby doing the same thing. You, nor I, know if he's calling the actual plays, or personnel, or a set. UGA folks saying he's calling the plays carries as much weight as their evaluation of their QB room holding multiple NFL draft picks. 🙃

That doesn't change the comment it would be him, on his own, calling a defense under Saban—training a new DC.

Could he have a show cause and be an analyst?

From my understanding: as long as he's not on the field and has no contact with recruits during s/c period, he can be an analyst.
From my understanding there's nothing officially in the bylaws about show cause clauses and analyst positions. So yes, @colbyjacks, he probably can because there's nothing stating he can't.

There may have been some addendums passed on coaches under a show cause. I'm not aware of any.

These aren't just any Uga folks saying this about him. It's one of the best defensive coaches to ever coach college football. If he's saying that his playcalling ability was good, then that carries a ton of weight with it. Smarts not known to just throw arrround compliments like that.
