I’d say if you think the 2nd half defense was all Saban then you’re just looking to complain about Golding and not thinking logically because it makes no sense that he would step in now, but not during the year🙄
No I don’t think CNS did it all in his own but I’m not naive enough to think that a light just suddenly came on for Golding to start making much better calls.

He told Saban “we’re changing”, so unless there was a ghost it was Golding that made the changes. Also, Saban didn’t jump in all year, but suddenly he just decided “well guess I’ll get involved”?

A lot of chatter in the last week or so about Golding. One thing for sure, other school's are waiting to see what happens with him, but they're interested. Sark, Kiffin, Lincoln Riley have all reached out to him (or his rep), others too supposedly. Despite his lack of popularity among Bama fans, he would be highly sought after across the CFB landscape. Starting to sound like Kiffin may not wait for any shoe to drop through, even if it costs Ole Miss more money. Doesn't sound like anything is imminent but just something to keep an eye on.

If I'm Lincoln Riley, I'm absolutely making the call.

I believe Bama fans will regret wanting him to leave

If I’m Saban I try and keep him
After this past season, Alabama needs to move on. I was hoping this would be the season where we finally have a consistent, dominant, disciplined defense. Especially with the amount of talent, and experience we had coming back, but that wasnt the case. Let's wait and see who we could get, but if we have a guy that can come in and do a better job than him.... let's pull the trigger.

Please God, please. There's 3-4 guys we could go after right now if he leaves for another job. Usc would probably be the best place for him right now for a number of reasons.

Would Riley really pull the plug Year 1 from his buddy he took from Oklahoma? Williams won the Heisman, but the offense looked pedestrian in the Oregon State, one Utah game, and for most of the Washington State game.

The dude is a world class recruiter and you don’t just pull those out of thin air and @TerryP has repeatedly shown that our defense wasn’t in fact near as bad as some fans would like to think. Schumann (sp?) and Lake might be able to recruit on the same level as PG, but are they really that much better than PG?

Alabama recruited just as well before Golding was even on staff, so he can be replicated in that regard. It was also pointed out a lot of those stats were propped up by crappy opponents. We were worse against real competition. He's had his opportunity. You think he'll perform better with less talent and less seniority? How many times do we keep hearing Saban/Golding's defense is too complicated? That is going to fix itself this offseason with new defensive play callers and so many new faces? I don't see it happening. As I said before, I couldn't care less if we stuff the shitty teams, I care about when we play the good teams and actually have to play good football to win the game. We aren't hoarding all of the talent anymore due to NIL and the Portal, so we are forced to play better instead of just beating other teams with talent alone.

We disagree on changing DC. Saban/Golding’s defense, there is none of that, it’s Saban’s defense with some tweaks from the DC, as has been said several times Saban’s defensive system needs an upgrade like the offense got when he hired Kiffin

In Golding's defense it's not like he is a complete shitbag of a coach. He is just decent at best. I do think most of the favorable stats regarding the defense are on account of Alabama simply laying the smack down on crappy teams.

Alabama simply laying the smack down on crappy teams.
Tree, versus forest. No, two trees versus a grove of 13 this season. Kansas State stands tallest amongst these.

UGA was averaging close to 40 a game last year. Alabama held them to 24 in the SECCG. But that's not a tree, it's a mere sapling. While we're at it let's not forget the seedling found in #4 Cincy last season.

Ohio State and Notre Dame in 2020. Or, for that matter, let's add #3 UGA in the mix. We'll call all three, in light of the holiday season just passed, artificial trees.

We can go look at '19, or '18 but the same conclusions will be found. You're either being intellectually dishonest or lying to yourself.

Sir, I've gone over film(and will continue to do so if I need to) showing the problems with this defense. Like I said before, consistency is my biggest issue with him. It's incredibly frustrating. And yes, in my opinion, theyd both be great recruiters, and better coaches on the field.

Is that a knock on the DC or more the position coaches? I mean doesn’t Saban coach the DBs? I feel like they’ve been the most inconsistent position in the last few years…

I personally have zero issues with PG staying DC if Saban decides that’s what he wants. He has a ton more information than we do to properly evaluate the performance of PG. we simply do not and can not have enough information to be able to properly evaluate his performance. So… you can watch every play out there and even if you have it in the all 22 camera, you still wouldn’t have enough to properly evaluate PG performance.

Use the eye test. Alabama had a dominate shutdown defense practically every year under Saban until 2018 right after Jeremy Pruitt left.

Golding isn't a collossell fuckup, but his defenses are just... average to decent at best.

Now, I acknowledge that some of that drop off could be due to the changes in how Bama played offense and what not, but that doesn't excuse him completely. If we have the option to hire someone better, by all means, do it. But I will tell you this: you keep him on, and you'll see the same results as we have seen since 2018.

We've got 3-4 years worth of film to watch and go over, that's more than enough to make a decision on his performance, if you feel it's enough to keep him at Alabama, fine. But from what I've watched since his time here, it's not. I'm not willing to wait another year to see if he finally puts it together.... I can only hope Saban feels that way, or any other way about him to get him to leave for another job.
