🏈 Tony Brown (early-entry) arrested Saturday night:

Curious to hear what happened. I've met a few cops that take things a little further than they need too.

That being said, not a good way to start things out regardless of the reasoning. Could be a painful lesson for him, seeing as how he'll be answering to two coaching staffs.

Walsh posted this, then edited it to "we'll continue to monitor."

Chris Walsh said...

All indications are that it was for a playing-music-too-loud type of thing and we’ll continue to monitor.

Tim Watts followed it up with this:

Talked to a few people and it appears Brown and some friends were playing music too loud. And it escalated. Not a huge deal. Sounds like a bone head move more than anything else.

This reminds me of another kid, young, who was arrested early in his time in Tuscaloosa for yelling at a friend in his car...as it so happens, a defensive back as well.

Reminds me when I almost got arrested in San Diego by a detective who said I was resisting. He made a comment like I don't know where you are from, but people in San Diego get killed for things like that. I replied something along the lines of, you think people in San Diego are tougher than someone in Alabama, you're an idiot. We had a pretty lengthy discussions and eventually he stated I had road rage and I replied something along the lines of you can barely write me a ticket your hands are shaking...who's got anger issues? He was seriously gonna arrest me for resisting arrest, I talked my way outta it somehow.

All this started because he was riding my ass and my dumbass @ 21 years of age decided to brake check an unmarked car with two detectives in it. I got his ticket thrown out because this detective sent me to the wrong courtroom, should have went to traffic court and he sent me to another one.

Needless to say, cops can escalate things further than some are willing to take things. They have the ultimate trump card and there are some folks who don't care for power trips, regardless of their credentials.

Via Casagrande.

Brown missed Saturday's season-opening indoor track and field meet with a shoulder injury, but was expected to run the 110 hurdles and be a member of the 4x100 relay team this spring.

The Tuscaloosa News asked the Tuscaloosa Police Department for a statement regarding Tony Brown's arrest. TPD sent the following.Incident at Campus Way Apartments
Tuscaloosa Police responded to a loud party and underage drinking complaint at Campus Way Apartments (301 Helen Keller Blvd) at 12:53 am on 1/19/14. Officers arrived on scene and located a large party at one of the apartments. While investigating the complaint officers found probable cause to arrest Chavis Taylor for Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest. As officers were walking Taylor to a patrol unit a large crowed (approximately 40 individuals) followed and gathered around officers. Officers told the crowd multiple times to disperse. Officers warned one individual (Tony Brown) multiple times to back up and leave the parking lot. The individual would walk a few steps away and then would walk right back towards officers. The officers warned the individual that if he did not leave the parking lot he would be arrested. The individual yelled threatening profanity at the officer and stepped toward the officers again. At the time the officer grabbed the suspect to take him into custody. The suspect pulled away resisting officers. Officers used pepper spray on the suspect and forced him to the ground and took him into custody. Both suspects were transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail.
Chavis Kentrell Taylor, 22 years old, of Tuscaloosa was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrested. He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail pending a $1,500.00 Bond.
Tony Mendell Brown, 18 years old, of Beaumont TX was charged with Failure to Obey and Resisting Arrest. He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail pending a $1,500.00 Bond.

Force continuum. Pepper spray means you don't have to beat someone's ass or injure them because they are dumb and can't follow easy and repeated instructions.

Some people have a problem with any type of authority, especially law enforcement, so here's a lesson. We hate noise complaints and the other political calls we have to respond to. But if we don't respond and handle them properly (make the noise stop), people who make a lot more money than you or us get pissed. So when you see us respond to that type of call, it's not because we were sitting around waiting for that adrenaline pumping noise complaint. No, we don't want to be there as much as you don't want us to be there, so we are just as pissed about the situation. So when you are told to do something (even if you think the constitution that you read once in 9th grade history because you had to gives you the right to do whatever you feel like doing without consequence) and you don't do it, something you don't want to happen is probably going to happen. Shocking, I know.
