I had this thought yesterday when I read this story. Let's assume this is a brief review of a book, or a movie.

~ A kid, who plays football, grows up in a small town where his dad is a coach on the local college team.
~ Kids, in their formative teenage/high school years, look at older guys who they "admire," footsteps they want to follow.
~ These college players, after having "run-ins" with school and law officials, are now "guarded" by armed security at their dorms. While school has become a figurative jail, the behaviors that created this environment continue.
That is, literally, his life.
