🏈 Tom Brady is retiring from football (UPDATE: Brady returning for his 23rd season?)

No surprise here if you have heard Tom answer when asked about it over the last few years. Going to Tampa was proving it was him and not the Patriots organization that was the reason for him being so good. Ever since the SB win there he has talked about his family and being there for them. I am sure he wanted another Super Bowl win but this is enough.

First of all, the talking head on the Bama game was babbling about Brady. I swear he said in his anecdote that Brady was playing with himself. Clearly that isn't what he meant... :)

I actually was shocked to see this story. With his storied career, I think he wouldn't want to go out as early as he did this year. He's not Big Ben; he's not falling apart.

When the news broke, I thought it sure would be nice if for once a player like Brady could announce it on his terms without it being leaked. Thought it would be funny of he came out and disputed the report just out of spite, and in a way I guess he did. Hate to see him go though... dude was incredible.

Already a cinch to be mentioned in that company as the GOAT, getting the one ring away from New England was that extra push to solidify his standing.
Honestly. How could anyone even doubt it.... of course other than TN fans.

I alway had Montana as #1 til Brady came along. May have to throw Young in there and maybe Blanda ( ms50+ favorite... by the way). Never saw any of them knell at National Anthem

Montana, Staubach and Bradshaw all won a lot including SB's but none like Brady. Montana was probably the closest but give Brady his dues.
Unitas' playcalling was light years ahead of his peers, all during a time QB's were bludgeoned. Favre's toughness (record for sacks taken) and gunslinger mentality (most INT ever thrown) were incredible. He had Sharpe and Driver at times, but he probably did more with marginal receivers than any QB mentioned here. He's been out of the league for ten or twelve years. What if the QB protection rules that helped Brady extend his career were in place for all of Favre or Staubach's careers? Montana's mastery over an elegant passing game, all of these guys stand out. Can't exclude Brees in the discussion, too, incredible accuracy, quick release, intelligent. Hard to pick one. Bradshaw had a complement of incredible receivers and a generational defense. In terms of players languishing on bad teams, I wonder what Stafford would have accomplished with a good team instead of being in Detroit all this time. Stafford at New England or Dallas would've been interesting.

Tim

A lot can be said for any player at Detroit.

I always made this statement about Barry Sanders. Had he been at Dallas instead of Emmitt Smith.......Good Lawd at the rushing records he would have had.
