šŸˆ Quick update on Ty Simpson's future...

No idea what is going to happen but Bama is a better team if Simpsons decides to come back. Sure Russell has high expectations what he does not have is the game experience that Simpson has. Not his fault just is what it is. A good Simpson is really good. Add a better run game and Simpson would be Heisman worthy QB. He was even w/o that for a window of time during this season. Crazy how fans want the backup...

In the mean time lets go win an SEC Championship!!!!

are ready to take over.
I haven’t seen anyone say that. Sure you aren’t straw manning other people’s opinions?
None of the backups have played much to register any qualifications.
Only one way to fix that:

give them some meaningful reps and opportunities.

In a game like last night, where you have to search the history books for a more inept Bama offensive performance, I think it’s inexcusable to deny a backup QB a chance.

Moreover, in this new era, I’m proposing that it would be advantageous to divide the snaps among your top 2 QBs throughout the season. More games, longer season, more injuries, thinner rosters, added pressures for playing time, etc., all should change how coaches manage, pacify, and retain quality QB commitments on your roster in this new era.

Think about how Urban carved out a package for Tebow as a fresh backup to Leak during his first natty run. Think about how giving Tua the 2nd half of the natty rescued us against UGa. I realize the QB position is unique and requires more consistency and repetition, but it can’t be immune as we see more shared snaps at all other positions on the field.

Feel the same about the OL?
Hmm not exactly the same since they all function together as a group. I think you ought to manage snaps differently with O skill players than with linemen. But obviously staying aware that in this era sharing snaps and opportunities is more critical than ever in keeping quality rosters intact.

I mean they played like crap all night, why not throw all the backups in?

It's easy for fans to say who should be playing but realistically don't you think coaches know who it should be? If Mack or Russell had come in and tossed an int then everyone would be saying how stupid the decision was. I'm not saying it couldn't be beneficial, obviously it was with Tua but Saban made that decision knowing what Tua could do maybe CKD made his knowing what his backups can do as well.

IMO there have been many opportunities to give the backups some meaningful reps (or even scrub time). Didn’t happen.

Like I said previously, O skill players function more individually than do the OL. But let’s be clear here, I not insinuating they haven’t subbed enough at OL all season long. Lord knows they have. So you’re using a bad example to bolster your argument. It is PRECISELY BECAUSE they have subbed a lot at OL all season long that I’m comfortable with their decisions last night at that position.

Look, some fans will say anything. That’s not an argument. My case is given the domination in (1) offensive plays, (2) TOP, (3) rushing yardage, (4) QB pressures and sacks, (5) the score (must I continue?), the strong majority of BamaNation wouldn’t have criticized DeBoer for giving some opportunities to Mack or Russell. Hell, even some of the social media accounts I follow were asking for this.

don't you think coaches know who it should be?
The inevitable post-game message board reply which undermines the whole enterprise of post-game discussion, debate, critiques, etc. Why discuss any topic about our team so long as ā€œour coaches know bestā€?

Maybe I’ve done a poor job of communicating, but at the foundation of what I’ve been saying is how I think our staff (and every staff frankly) needs to manage their QB room in this era. I’ll concede the possibility, and even probability, that last night Simpson deserved every snap. My broader point still stands insofar as how we OUGHT to manage and distribute QB PT each season. To keep elite QB commitments, not unlike backups at all other positions, we must carve out a niche that allows them to contribute more on gamedays while also making them more prepared to offer something when we desperately need a spark.
