The Tapatalk Issue

I will say this, and I'm not really flaming. But the layout colors of this site remind me more of Michigan State than Bama.

Because of the green layout here ... on this forum?

It's the Quad. It's not a section of the site dedicated to football.

IF I were to count the number of hours I spent on the Quad at UA I would have to list it in weeks, maybe months. I vividly recall being surrounded by a lot of green—pun intended.

There's a reason the site has different templates and styles for each section. It's about control (according to @Biff1 :bird: )

No, seriously. I wanted each section to have a different feel. Look at the TV/Movie section. It's a style all its own. I've built and I'm seriously contemplating a change in the style to the football forum that'll look similar to that of the Sportsbook but with Crimson and White properties.

As egotistical as this may sound ...

I can, so I do. It gives this site a unique feel and look that no other site for Bama comes close to having. Hell, there's only one other site that comes close and it's still (and likely will remain) it's an infant stage. That's not even mentioning the mods, add-ons, and hacks in place that are unique.

Admin, this came down to one thing, as we all know, control. I continued to beat this dead horse because it was obvious you were not going to admit what this was all about.

You've got a nice site, you all have put a lot of work into it. And yes, it's 100% usable through a browser. I won't even pretend to know the technicalities of a message board. I'm quite ignorant when it comes to that stuff. I had finished college before the Internet was anywhere as big as it is now. My job doesn't require a ton of web use. So for me, Tapatalk made it easier to view and participate in forums. As I said, I visit a few different ones and there all right there. There is a fact here, and that is that it was much easier to post pics with Tapatalk.

Do you see the conflict in your thoughts here, Biff? On one hand you're accusing me of doing this due to some control aspect. Yet, in a breath later you admit you don't know the technicalities of this software.

The removal of Tapa had nothing to do with compatibility. It had everything to do with what's needed and how this interface is designed to work with any mobile device.
Your assertion this has to do with control is asinine to the point of being funny. I've said repeatedly over the years this is a fucking message forum. It's entertainment. I'm not going to get into pissing matches with people over football. And I'm certainly not going to do the same over something like Tapa.

There's still a thread over on the football forum explaining why I made the decision I made. @Big Balls shot me a note asking if I'd turn it back on. Due to that request, and the way it was asked, I'm likely still going to do so. But, being very straight forward and honest with you here, approaching this whole subject with this type of crap makes me very apathetic to the idea.

HOWEVER, apathy tends to be petty the majority of the time. Pettiness, like pissing contests, aren't my cup of tea.

That's fine, I'll take the blame for this whole thing, but there are many tapa users that feel the same as me.

Actually, no. There are not a lot of tapa users here. At all. I can tell you down to the exact number how many people used their built-in Android browser to surf the site. The same numbers are readily available for those using Firefox (even down to the version,) Chrome, MSIE, you name it. Heck, I even keep track of the OS people are using.

All that said ...

There's no "blame" assigned to anyone.

I don't use Tapa because I don't like the interface. Easier to add pics? It's four clicks on your phone. Upload file > select picture from your gallery > select size (thumbnail or full size) > Post reply.

IF you have the url (ending in .gif, .png, etc.) it's a copy, click, paste, post. Still, four clicks. I can break it down even further if you would like me to do so.

__________

On a different note, slightly...

There are more people using the cheap Alcatel Walmart phone on this site than Tapa and that percentage is small. In reality, out of the 1.5 million page views so far this month, it accounts for .0016329712 % of the page views.

_________

As soon as we get ready for the next upgrade, which is right around the corner from being moved out of its beta stage, I'll be turning it off again. (I do that for every modification here just to make sure everything runs as it's supposed to.) That move may be for good. I don't know. Again, I have to ask, if it isn't needed why have it, ya know? To me, from the business side of things, it's a waste of space.

However, I'm open to listening to anyone on anything about the site. Again, it's a message forum. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I've got to finish up some work ... one of those "paycheck/money things." I'll check back later.

Sorry for the length. I'd much rather be a bit verbose than vague.

Thank you for the consideration. BiffOne's a little impatient. Please don't punish the group for the actions of one.

You have nothing to worry about.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the numbers of those using Tapa and when it's combined with the responsive design here for people to understand why the move was made.

At least, I hope it doesn't!!!

Soo is tapa coming back? This is a great site and having Tapatalk work will make my browsing experience better.

Not today.

I'm trying to get the rest of this paperwork, etc., done here at the bar and get back out on the lake before nightfall.

I know Lance is up to his ears with trees down all over his property from a recent storm and that's not mentioning him covering the fast pitch softball this weekend in B-ham ... I'll be back to my regular schedule soon—Monday at the latest—and I"ll get back to this thread then.

If 1.5 is released in Gold next week I'll likely turn it off again as templates, etc. are being updated. When Tapa upgraded back in December/January of last year there were issues with PHPBB, vB, several different software packages. It was fine here. Again, when I looked at the numbers of people using it versus those visiting the site ... just didn't make sense to me.

What are you surfing the site with? Phone, tablet? Samsung NVG or something like that I looked and forgot.

Now that you mention it, the sectional color coordination is pretty damn cool. I hadn't noticed before. Probably because is spend so much more time down here than on the football section, currently.

I thought so as well.

You probably noticed the rotation of banners on the sports forums. A little javascript, a little hacking here and there, and it's another feature I really like about this software.

I've wondered if I could get the banner here to display the night scene on the Quad after 6PM or so and stay that way until the morning. That's a bit of coding I'd have to learn ... IF it's possible.

You're trying to proselytize and keep me here with all that sexy hacking and JavaScript talk, aren't you?

I use a note 4 or my computer. Chrome on both.

The site works fine using my phones browser it's just not as efficient as it is using Tapatalk. Tapatalk requires less scrolling and less loading time. Even if the clicks were the same, Tapatalk is faster. Tapa does more to help browsing than just resizing the page.

I'm fully capable of browsing the site without tapa. It's just easier and faster (for me anyway) to use tapa.

Browser viewing does look a hell of a lot better and the bells and whistles are nice, I just don't use them when I'm on my phone. I think different people use the site differently.
