🏈 Team update 2.0

Two very different situations. That era of bama football ('03-'04 ish?) aren't in the same conversation talent wise. I think if Morris had to run his teams, I'm thinking it would have been ugly. Hard to say how Pennington would have done with this group... Didn't he start as a third stringer the season he won the Music City Bowl? So I guess Morris is pretty comparable.

If it were 2009 and handing off to Mark Ingram against all the "regular" offenses in the SEC would be good enough, Morris wouldn't be as bad an option. But this is 6 years later and scoring points is a must. I'm sorry but with the talent on this team, anything less than a playoff appearance is a disappointment. All around this is an incredibly talented team in so many ways... But QB happens to be an enormously important position. That position can and will decide who wins the national title... Morris was punting last Spring... Goodness gracious.
He was punting because we didn't have a punter then, right? And Morris did some punting in high school? I thought this was covered already...

Ok I see more where you are leaning. All the potential of this team it would be a shame to have the QB hold it back

The point about '09 is well taken. I well remember sitting in BDS watching Ingram be the offense against S Carolina. The scoring drive where he ran the wildcat the entire drive still gives me chills to think about

From Tidesports.com:

So I went to my first practice yesterday and I guess I owe the board some info!

First off, I know somebody that knows somebody and that’s how I got into a closed practice. I still got a mild background check, provided a blood sample and fingerprints before receiving credentials to get into the practice. When I first went inside, I thought I was as big as the players but quickly realized I was standing by the walk-on skill players. Next, the defensive line came off the field and stood a few feet from me. A’Shawn Robinson and Jonathan Allen were side-by-side and Allen was surprisingly close to the same size as A’Shawn. They were both huge and very lean. When I say huge I mean their calves are about the same size as my head! It was crazy! I am standing there and Ruben Foster brushes by me to get to his next drill. Da’Shawn Hand walks by and then D.J. Pettway runs by full speed and almost trucks me to get to another DL drill. The outside of his shoulder pads just missed my head. I would have been injured if it were not for my cat like reflexes. Reggie Ragland walks up to me and I think he is going to shake my hand but then I realized I am standing in front of the hydration stand and I’m in his way! A few seconds later Coach Saban, who was about 10 feet away, is yelling at one of the DBs about something he had done incorrectly. I was about to ask him for a depth chart but quickly lost my nerve after seeing his laser eyes in person. This was just the first 10 minutes I was there, so I was getting a little dizzy and star struck to say least. I realized I better get it together if I was going to provide any info for the board. It was a regular practice and not a scrimmage but I’ll explain what I saw.

QBs: Everybody you talked to sings the praises of BB. He just has the “IT” factor. I am not saying he will play this year but he has tons of potential.

Alec Morris reminds me of G-Mac. He protects the ball and does not make a lot of mistakes. Those guys stuck out but it’s just one practice and this could change next practice.

RBs: Derrick Henry looks great and Damien Harris looks like he can contribute this year. Derrick Gore will provide quality depth and he is faster than I thought. Xavian Marks is fun to watch and easily the quickest guy on the field.

RECEIVERS: Ardarius , Foster, and Ridley consistently flashed and made plays all over the field.

DEFENSIVE LINE: Everbody looks a lot leaner than I recall from last year’s team. This group was picked to dominate for a reason. We have so many of them so its amazing that they are able to get them all quality practice time but they do!

DEFENSIVE BACKS: As a group, they were getting after the ball in the air and were stripping receivers if they did catch it. Eddie jumped a route and had a nice pick. I like him better at the safety position. This group is more improved than last year’s.

Well that’s all for now and will say it was one of the coolest days of my life. Roll Tide!

Crazy everything I've said but days late ;)

I'm agreeing with GMAC. He still has contacts on the team. Morris is the likely starter against Wiskey. But more than one QB will see playing time with the ones as the season wears on. They will try to keep Blake off the field if at all possible. It's looking more and more likely they can't. If he ever gets in there, only an injury or a complete meltdown will take him out. He's the guy who has earned the nod. Everybody sees it and knows it but they don't want to admit it. This guy is special. He's looking like he's as good or better than AJ, Brodie, hell, maybe all the way back to Richard Todd.

And I think it's time for Saban to really seriously evaluate his QB recruiting. He's lights out at recruiting except for two positions. He sucks at QB and PK. Leave those two to somebody else. Kiffin has recruited one guy and that one guy is better than 4 of Sabans.

If Blake is "the guy" next year, don't you think they should try to get him some snaps this year? Those real game snaps are gold... Plus he could get #2 reps in practice.

I mean, if he's really good, pretty unlikely he makes it 4 years the way QB's are valued. Although it worked out well with AJ who ended up staying all 5 years
