🏈 Smith did nothing wrong??

I've heard a few reports from different media outlets that Andre Smith was basically suspended for no reason.

The NCAA and the University of Alabama cleared Smith to play, yet Saban sent him home.

I've heard many rumblings that Smith had no illegal contact with an agent and that Saban may have suspended Smith for an unknown reason.

Here again...I'm not the one saying this, but this morning I've heard rumblings of this new development.

I was a big believer of the "agent story"...but who knows?

I would have to see that to believe it. Plus, this sends a messages this is not a Shula team you mess up you go home! Although the outcome was an asskicking this shows who's the boss of the program. Which IMO is what we need.

Someone may be playing word games. A close family member contacting an agent would be just as problematic as Andre doing so. Al.com is running a "tease" to sell papers tomorrow.

Word was that either an uncle or brother was the one that had the contact. When pressured to "give up" the who, Andre wouldn't tell and CNS was left with no choice. The BHAM NEWS reported that Andre's lawyer said "Andre had no contact with an agent." The NCAA says that "no one" player or family member may receive any gifts from an agent or his rep. It's a shame that Andre may have been "pimped out" by a family member before his last game. Some have said that his legacy will be tarnished but I am not among those.

As much as I hated to see Smith suspended, that point comes at a higher price BUT also comes w/ HIGHER returns.

I applaud CNS for his move for so many reasons but MY (not anyone elses) biggest reason is that it quells any concern that I had about CNS doing TOO well at recruiting.

Sounds about right.

Plus, would the family of Andre Smith lie? Sure they would! Let's be honest, who wants to really admit why he was suspended.

One of my friends said Saban needs to EXPLAIN why he suspended Smith? No he doesn't!

Until I have total proof, I'm guessing it was contact with an agent.

However, it's not totally impossible that he was in violation of other team rules.

Whatever took place occured after the team got to NO. Why would you let a guy fly with the team, if you knew good and well that you were planning on sending him home.

Frustrating situation indeed. Until we get the honest truth, the rumor mill will churn.

It happened before the team left for New Orleans. The compliance department found out about when they were in New Orleans.

Suspended for no reason? Not the case, at all.

It goes beyond gifts. Mere contact with someone that could have an influence on future earnings of a player is enough to result in suspension.

Thanks for the info Terry.

Again, having to make this thread is rather stupid b/c I think we all agree that issues with an agent DID take place.

I've just heard some wild pleas of innocence during the course of the day, that made me wonder.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. If Andre has information that can help with this investigation but refuses to help, his legacy absolutely is tarnished in a huge way. I have also heard from multiple sources that, when asked for his cell phone & records, Andre refused to turn those over. By refusing to "give up the who", he put the relative ahead of his teammates, and as far as I'm concerned, his legacy is tarnished beyond repair unless he starts cooperating. I've got no use for a guy, even an All-American, who puts himself ahead of team.

By the way, don't underestimate the ability of the attorney general to get to the bottom of this. Not only might he prosecute the agent, he might also prosecute the rival agent who turned Andre in if it is found that he also had improper contact with Andre or his family.

Ive got reliable sources that tell me that Andre was suspemed for a "violation of team rules." What exactly happened was that he violated a rule and got auapended.

I gained a lot more respect for CNS when he said that he would put no player ahead of the team. That spoke volumes for CNS and the program he is building. Also I think it sends a message to "new" kids being recruited that CNS is a no BS coach. That in and of itself will cull any bad apples. keep it up Coach you are the MAN!
