| BSB/SB ⚾ SEC Tournament: Alabama’s Run in Hoover Ends with 9-2 Loss to Eighth-Ranked Vanderbilt

We are 9th nationally in pitching!!! You do recall that we lost 2 weekend guys for the season right? Hitt and Hess were 2 lefty starters that could deal! Add to it, Antoine Jean was injured in the Fall, so we are doing pretty damn good.
I have not followed or been heavily invested into Alabama baseball for a long time. I root for them and absolutely have been following since Bohannon left. But no, I did not know that. Our pitching has been excellent. It's just something I've noticed since this run that I believe our weak point is our bullpen.

We have a damn good team.

Great win, to come back against a really good/really hot auburn team after last night's blown game, and send them home. Got squirrely in the 9th and I was a tad nervous after the leadoff walk. Riley Quick is loaded with potential, but his enemy right now is his control... just really inconsistent with his location. Which that's normal for a freshman.... the aggravating thing is Alabama's insistence on going with the shift when you have pitchers that can't locate. If you get an out doing it, it isn't strategy, it's luck. It cost Alabama a run and could have led to another big inning with 2 of the SEC's best hitters coming up... luckily, they got out of it.

How long has it been? Four weeks, or more, since Quick pitched?

Just looking over our roster and stats and we have A LOT of young arms with anywhere from 5 to 9 appearances. Jim Wells used to be the master at taking one of these guys and trotting him out there in the SEC tourney and the kid throw 7-8 innings of brilliance. Man it would be nice to have had Jean, Hess, and Hitt healthy this year.

I like Dave Neal but you know that sometimes those guys just like to hear themselves talk. Love hearing Ben McDonald though!! Dude is baseball’s version of Charles Barkley.
While watching yesterday I had the volume up two, maybe three times ... and then only temporarily. While it's not to the same degree as football and basketball I've just reached the point where I don't listen to the commentators often.

All of that leads me to a bit of a broader question.

I've yet to hear someone mention Bo being fired AND the gambling story in the same breath. I've seen references to Bo being fired, seen graphics, but no mention of placing wagers on games.

Have I just missed the comments? Or, is this more of a case where the media doesn't want that portion of the story highlighted (considering how much emphasis we're seeing on totals, spreads, etc.?)

Third, @TerryP now that you mention it, I have not heard or seen the two items mentioned together either.
I'm only speculating when I think about the developing relationships between casino's and the media. It does make sense.

As an aside, this weekend's games also come on the heels of an NCAA report on the increasing number of gamblers within collegiate sports. (I think it's SI who has an article covering the report.) And, for what it's worth, the report does mention the number of people placing wagers on sports all across campus has increased with little noted differences between student athletes and students.

I think they are more than likely just trying to stay out of muddy waters and not say something that could bite them. For example, saying he was fired for placing bets would be inaccurate. Saying he was fired for not cooperating with an investigation in a gambling probe, would be accurate. There are emerging whispers that he was justifiably fired for cause, but that the whole gambling thing is being overblown. Not sure how much of that last sentence is legit or maybe wishful thinking... but it'll all come out sooner or later.
