To be where they are, record wise, after this non-con open is something I would have bet against a few months ago.

If you recall, we've had more than a few conversations here about this team having more talent than last season's squad and the expectation the record wouldn't be as good as last seasons.
Indeed and I honestly expected them to be closer to .500. Unfortunately when they went and drilled Gonzago I subconsciously reset my expectation :). I have been very disappointed in the rebounding. Grown used to inconsistent play on offense with turnovers and shooting but hard to see them man handled on the boards the way they were against Houston and Memphis.

Still trying to figure out how Shack disappears so much at times. I think the team is better with JQ running the show but Oats is putting it in JD's hands more of late. I am sure a lot of this is by design to help JD grow because he knows what JQ can do. If the light could come on and JQ, JD and Shack playing at a high level they are dangerous even with the post guys struggling.

12/24: Bama drops to a 5-seed.

They will drop even more if they do not get some things figured out and quickly. Crazy since they played so well up to Houston (pulled out despite a horrible rebounding game).

I wonder if there is a problem with team chemistry the fall off doesn't make sense. We need JD to be more aggressive he is really to unselfish attack the rim. Need more from Miles he plays to passive he needs to attack the rim with aggression. CNO has his work cut out.

It seemed like they were letting JQ and Shack drive things when they were playing well. Then they tried to get JD more engaged in the offense and that is when things went south. I fully understand Oats wanting to get JD involved and playing well because they would be really hard to handle if JQ, JD, and Shack were all hitting on all cylinders. Has it backfired or is it just taking longer for JD to figure things out? It may have absolutely nothing to do with it so just an observation trying to figure out what has happened. I also believe the teams have decided Bama is not as much of a threat down low so they are guarding the perimeter more tightly. The bigs are going to have to step up and make teams pay.

Big game tomorrow night vs Tennessee. Rumor going around that the Vols will be without two players due to covid.

I think the break will do us good to reset and refocus on certain crashing the glass and playing better defense. Rick Barnes teams notoriously struggle vs teams that like to play 4 and 5-out and push the tempo.

If Bama loses to the vile’s it will take them some time to recover from the poor play they’ve exhibited lately. If they beat the vile’s though, they could get hot and go on a run in conference play.

By my count Alabama has played the most Q1 and Q2 schools in CBB: 7-3 with no Q3/4 losses.
And now, this Saturday, we will play our first Q4 opponent. Thanks Mizzou.

When I was a student at UA, Mike Slive (RIP) came to the auditorium at Graves Hall as a guest speaker. He was asked hundreds of questions about being the commissioner; the SEC's recent success in all athletics; how he got to be in his position; etc.. Then he was asked about expansion. His reasoning to target A&M was a nobrainer, as they a large alumni base with lots of $. Also it further opened up the SEC market to Houston. The reasoning to target Mizzou was not as confidently given. He mentioned the St. Louis market, but also their success in basketball. And to his credit, when Mizzou joined, they were good in basketball and the SEC was literally only Kentucky and Florida. But what a huge backfire that has been. I will never understand the motive to get them.

Looking ahead to Tampa (of all places to have the SECT. )

Bama holds the tiebreaker over Tennessee for the W/TH byes.

Auburn all but secured the regular season championship with a win over Kentucky on Saturday. Their schedule sets up favorably down the stretch.

We need to get hot at the right time and start worrying about seeding. Can't afford to drop a game to a garbage UGA team.

JL updated his brackets today has the Tide as a six seed trending down and understandable. The past month he has had us as a five seed. The team is really at a cross road resume is still good with six wins against top 25 and NET ranking at 24. The issue is conference record Wednesday night in Oxford is really looking like a must win. If we finish below .500 in conference I doubt we go to the dance. After the first half of the season that would be a huge disappointment hopefully CNO can right the ship.
