This doesn't make any sense to me.

We've seen coaches accept jobs and continue at their old employer. We've seen them accept a job and not start for a month. We've seen them accept a job and not sign a contract for weeks, if not months.

I'm just not buying this as a reason.

There are some bright lines in contracts that can affect "official" timing, such as Stoops' late resignation to reportedly get a lump payment.

JMO but I'm not sure Chip is going to want to work has hard as he will have to work in the SEC. Sure there is talent in the state of Florida but take a good luck at FSU and how missing on quality backup QB's can break a program. Taking the UCLA gig would be better geared to a coach if recruiting wasn't something I enjoyed. Chip might appear to be Gold to GatorVille but he could turn to be Fools Gold in the end.

I'm hoping that Mullen doesn't get off to Tennessee. This guy getting overlooked for the LSU job in favor of Orgeron was a miracle and proved that Alleva is blind as a bat. If Mullen ever gets top recruits to develop he is going to be a handful.

If the viles are back to Kiffin, things have taken a tumble for the worst. They still have a football culture problem on the team. A lot of good players have quit the program and don' forget last season when Butch Jones went code red on a tenn reciever for coming to the rescue of a rape victim when he drove her home. The reciever quit after being beaten up by other payers and called a traitor on the way out by the HC. How does something like that not divide the team? They quit on butch last season and certainly checked out early this year.

How will Kiffin do anything but inflame an already bad environment on rocky flop with his track record of immature antics?
