🏈 Say 1 Good Thing About The State of South Carolina

Golf courses. South Carolina has their share of fine ones.
'ello.

Within Charleston County there are over 20 championship courses to play (as in have hosted championships.) Within roughly an hour of my house there are over 100 to play. Within 15 minutes ... geez, gotta count. Eight. I could be on the tee box in 30 minutes at eight different courses--without hitting a few balls on the range I'd probably be in the fairway. Give me a half of an hour and I could be in the pro shop of probably 30, maybe more.

In less than two hours I can be in Myrtle Beach which has 50+ courses rated 4 stars or better by Golf Digest.

So yes, golf.

Confusing tweet with "another." It was the first time he was nominated. First African American to win the award....2nd time a BBQ pitmaster won.

It's ironic you posting this, Matt. A friend and I were talking last night 'bout food down there. A piece of fried chicken (not a fried food fan) that was every bit of an inch thick and as big as your hand (YOUR hand) with collards and black-eyed peas. Geez...I couldn't eat it all.

@It Takes Eleven Another winner in this was FIG. Have you eaten there when you've been in town? (It's a tablecloth place so that might be a bit stuffy for your blue collar.) It's about a 3-4 minute walk from the hotel you stayed at last time...round the corner on Meeting St

Seriously. The next time you're in town with the wife put it on your list. Look up Jessica when you're in there...she'll "seat" you right. Best to call ahead for a table...and try the baked Tilefish dish. (Geez...makes me think of their fish stew ... shrimp, squid, mussels, scallops...good god.)

FIG was one of the few places open when I was iced in downtown in January, I ate there that evening. Very good. My wife had it on her list of places to try and wasn't happy I beat her to it.

It's beautiful; I would love to live there. Just being honest.
I'm moving from Oxford, Ms to Colombia, SC next summer. It can't get here fast enough.

Worse bbq ever...
We lived in NC on 2 separate occasions and loved Carolina style BBQ (pulled pork with a clear, vinegar and season based sauce). If it's true to its name and resident within SC, I'll respectfully disagree with your assessment. Also, who doesn't like shrimp and grits or boiled peanuts?

SC BBQ is closer to typical Bama BBQ than NC style. Not BBQ, but hit the Hunter Gatherer in downtown Columbia in the shadow of the State House on Main Street. Good food, good beer. They recently opened a larger place in a hanger at the old municipal airfield.

Close enough to the ocean to feel the tropical effects from storms...far enough away to deal with snow in the winter.

Interesting little side note here...historically, there are four different SC BBQ sauces. In the Low Country, I'd say the vast majority would call SC BBQ the same as the Carolina Gold/Mustard based sauce. I've seen had two different tomato based styles and the vinegar / pepper mix as well.

Oh yeah! Since you've mentioned shrimp and grits, keep their Blackened Beef Tips and Grits in mind.

FWIW, as I recall it's about a half of a mile, maybe less, from Hunter Gatherer to The Hickory Tavern (home of the Bama Alumni group's watch parties the last time I was up there during the season.)
