🏈 Reggie Ragland traded from Bills to K.C. Chiefs

Reports have been that Reggie is still trying to get that first step quickness back after the surgery. I think Andy Reid is smart enough to know the talent he has or he doesn't make the trade and will give him time to fully come back from the knee. In the meantime, I'm glad he is at least with good ownership and a decent playoff team.

The Chiefs made an intriguing trade Monday when they shipped a future fourth-round pick to the Buffalo Bills in return for linebacker Reggie Ragland, who was the Bills' second-round pick in the 2016 draft. On Tuesday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave some thoughts on where Ragland stands with his new team.

Ragland was a highly-touted linebacker prospect in 2016 after winning All-American and SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors during the 2015 season at the University of Alabama. He was sidelined for his rookie season with the Bills after tearing his ACL, but Reid says the feedback the Chiefs got on that front was positive.

"Reggie was obviously a great player at Alabama," Reid said. "He got hurt last year, but things were on the up-and-up for him. All the people we talked to were really positive reports. Brett did all the homework on that, talking to the people. We look forward to bringing him on board and seeing how things work out for him."

Ragland himself has suggested he hasn't fully recovered from his injury, and Reid said the same on Tuesday. But in terms of the defense, Ragland could be in for a smooth transition as the system he was drafted to play in under former head coach Rex Ryan in Buffalo is similar to what defensive coordinator Bob Sutton runs in Kansas City.

"We'll just see," Reid said. "He's coming off the ACL, so we're just going to see where he is physically. I don't think he's all the way back from that, so we'll work him, although he's played in (preseason) games, then let him get caught up on the defense. Some of it might be carryover in the fact that he was with Buffalo last year and Rex's defense and Bob's defense are similar."

Ragland has been referred to by some scouts as more of a run-stuffing "thumper" of a linebacker, but Reid, who said Tuesday Ragland was high on the Chiefs draft board last year, thinks his new linebacker can be more than that.

"It's good to be a thumper, but I would tell you he could play three downs," Reid said. "That was what he was coming out."

Take a look at Ragland's 2015 highlights below:

Ragland had 102 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks for the Crimson Tide in 2015. He notched 220 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and four sacks on his college career.

Reggie is good at all aspects of his position, except when asked to cover intermediate passes, which is expected more at that level. He has good short speed but not good over any distance, so not the best sideline to sideline guy. He is Foster without the top speed. If they use him correctly, then he can be a good one for them.
