Alabama offered 2018 five-star defensive end and Penn State commit Micah Parsons last May, just a few months after the Harrisburg (Pa.) Central Dauphin product committed to the Nittany Lions.

On Wednesday, Parsons announced on Twitter that the Crimson Tide staff has given him the "green light" to play offense.

At 6-foot-3, 235 pounds, Parsons certainly compares to Bama running back Bo Scarbrough in physical stature.

Flipping Parsons would certainly bode well for the Crimson Tide in pursuit of the No. 1-ranked recruiting class for 2018, as James Franklin and staff currently sit atop the leaderboard.

It should be noted that Penn State has also given Parsons the option of playing both offense and defense.

Parsons is rated the No. 2 strong-side defensive end and the No. 5 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Other than something to read on a bit of a slow Saturday, what good is a commit for the '18 class? I mean no offense towards you for asking the question and I'm in no position to question a commit if one happens ... but, considering '17 isn't over yet? A lot of these kids are camping for the first time?

Personally, I start paying attention to who is in camp in the summer and then start paying attention to early committments.

That's just me though ...
