Will Anderson and Brian Branch have been surprises for me listed as starters. I hope that Jobe proves steady opposite of Surtain and I hope that Wright and Battle hold down their spots as well.
WR corps could be another special group and I like seeing Slade Bolden listed as a possible holder. Rather have him than Mac to be honest.

Interested to see the Nickel front - traditionally it has included the JACK as the 4th DL, and the SAM goes to the sideline in favor of the STAR.

The D is in nickel probably 2/3 of the time, so that would mean 2 true frosh starters. Those 4 true frosh at those 2 spots seem like amazing players, so that should be exciting!

I know Shane Lee took a beating last year on every forum I read, but I was a bit surprised to see him listed 3rd at Mike

Kind of surprise to see Christian Harris over McMillion at Will.......but I guess after being thrown to the wolves last year, now Harris knowledge of the D coupled with his athletic ability........maybe not so surprising.

Freshmen starters at certain positions on D even if talented concern me. Mistakes will be made but hopefully not as many as we had last year. Just hope Moses and Surtain can help minimize those mistakes by the freshmen.

Have not seen anyone say anything about Ismael Sopsher 3rd behind a true freshmen Tim Smith.

Yes experience could be an issue... But at the same time, only one way to get it! And much rather having freshman making the mistakes than seniors 😑. The future is bright

I was always high on Shane Lee considering the situation he was in. Yeah, he made mistakes, but he filled in very admirably considering the situation he was put in. He's going to grow and be a fun guy to watch.

Saban noted some of the freshmen got extra reps or have been elevated due to injuries, so some of these guys down the depth chart could be nursing some things.

Sophsher is co-#2 NT along with Tim Smith. Both are elite recruits, so not real surprising.

The "or" thing.... Someone has to go in first... 🤦‍♂️

Most seem to forget they start as few as three different groupings depending on opponent. While Harry may be the NT in base, Dick may be inside in nickel, and Tom in dime and rabbits.

Last year there were seven different starters on the line, four in the linebacking corps, and eight guys who started a game in the secondary. How many starting lineups can you count there?

First - I thought I deleted that comment? After 2nd thought, I get some of the ideas you've mentioned.

Buuuut, on first thought - This is the "groupings" as of right now, isn't it? Like - vs Missouri. If it's not, what's the point?

A lot of those different starting line ups were due to injury and/or adjustments. If that's the case, then a "grouping" list would be different in that given week. But this is a grouping for right now, isn't it?

We all know what it is... Trophy society, don't hurt feelings, etc. And hey, I get it... No one wants to ruffle feathers if you don't have to.... But it's also OK to point out that it defeats the purpose of "groupings" if you're not willing to actually commit to a prioritized list.

I don't think this is an example of trophy society at all. There's players at quite a few positions that are nearly interchangeable. CNS keeps guys co-listed to keep competition open and let them know there is no difference. Some guys may be better one week, others the next. Some may be a better NT in the Base D vs. the Nickel, as Terry alluded to. So some of this is practical, and some is motivational. JMO.
