🏈 ***Official-Not Playoff Bowl Game Thread***

Alf Van Hoose's book, "More than a game" is good stuff for all Bama fans. I liked Bolton, he was a prolific writer and wrote about a lot of stuff away from Alabama.

Bolton was big on racing, too. His son Mike focused on the outdoors, but expanded some.

Clyde wrote articles about local racing, one in particular about my Dad when the old Dixie Speedway in Midfield was running around 1970. The old stock cars in that day used crude wings to increase down force like the sprint/outlaw cars, but my Dad took his off and had some success. Bolton's article was "Flying Without Wings".

Bolton did like to write about car racing and the outdoors quite a bit. I spent my real young years in Huntsville and they had a half mile track that was a hoot down around Lacy Springs. I believe they ran on Friday evenings and I got to see a lot of future NASCAR drivers. Then when we moved to the B'ham area I often went up to the Fairgrounds and watched the paint swapping going on. Fun times.

Around the time of that article, more late sixties, NASCAR didn't pay enough for drivers to live on, unless you were a Petty I guess. Bobby Allison used to travel all over the south running feature races. My Dad said he was the dirtiest driver he ever raced against, always using the chrome horn.
