Herbstreet told Finebaum today:

SC is athletic and McElroy/Jones will have to win the game on the outside

I assume this means the 334 yards rushing I tought I saw Auburn rack up on SC was just a terrible nightmare and the Gamecocks actually beat Auburn. Is that what he's saying?

I think our running game will do just fine.

before we beat florida, herbstreit said that he didn't even pick us to go back to the sec championship game - after we beat florida he was yammering on about how anyone in the country would have a tough time beating us and we were the best team. i don't listen to anything he says, or anyone on ESPN for that matter - they all change with the wind.

I think Kirk is one of the better talking heads. I think he was thinking what most others were thinking, young inexperienced but super talented secondary with a few tough road games and florida at home - Auburn has a fairly easy schedule this year. that was at least how I interpreted what he said

I think he was just defending his pre-season pick, which was that Auburn and Florida meet in the SEC Championship this season.

I think S.C. does have a better defense then they showed against the barn but I still believe we can run on them as well. G-Mac and company will have to make more plays in the passing game tho.

I concur.

I believe Herbstreet even went as far to explain his pre-season choice not to long ago on ESPN and it went along the lines of how our schedule and the Barns schedule lay out for each team. I like Herbstreet. I don't think he is a "homer" like some others, a la Robert Smith.

I like Herby too and agree he is one of the better analyst, I just think I've caught him being a little lazy with his analysis lately. He used to me knowledgable on every team in the SEC but now it seems he only reads up on the teams he will be covering Saturday Night.

We all do. It happens week in and week out.

Be honest...what did you have UGA being at this time of the year if I asked you that question in the pre-season?

Being honest, I had them at 4-1 at this point, losing only to USCe. After the A J Green thing became known I changed that pick to Arky. I'd have laughed at anyone telling me that they'd lost to MSU and Colorado.

Your running game will most likely do fine. USCjr will make it tough sledding, most of Auburn's yards were from Cam and the D had to play back to respect the fact he may also pull up and throw the ball. When we lined up to run they were all over the place. I will say, USCjr has a nasty defense. I just don't think they'll hang in in the whole game. It will probably open up for you guys a bit sooner than it did for us simply because Cam was our main threat and our true go-to running back is 18 years old.

As for Herby, he generally justifies his pick well. His pick for Auburn was based on the way our schedule lays out, he said as much. All of the tough games, save that one in November, are in Auburn. He saw a young, inexperienced defense for Bama and went out on a limb saying Auburn's offense would gel quickly with Cam at QB and Bama's D would be slow to respond. He was half-way right. Our offense has become explosive much quicker than I expected, even with Cam moving into the QB slot. Your defense was slow to mature but when it came on it came on strong--that is the variable that Herbstreit didn't plan on taking place. His argument made sense--youth and inexperience, especially in the complex coverage packages that Saban runs, will lead to mistakes. Looking at your first five games--he's right. There were mistakes, there were points scored but once it seemed to click they really got it. If your secondary and our offense continue to progress, the Iron Bowl will be mighty interesting.

His pick for Florida made sense to me until I watched them play. I bought into the hype that Brantley would step in and run the offense in simliar fashion to how Chris Leak won the BCS a few years ago--my God was I wrong! I'm pretty sure I could line up at center and be an upgrade, at least I'll get the ball to Brantley so he doesn't have to struggle to get the ball and then still make the wrong decision.

I had them 2 & 3 actually. 7 & 5 on the year. Some how i just knew they were going to suck. But i didn't see the loss to the Buffs.
I knew they were going to be really bad, but no way did i see UGA loosing that one...even as bad as i though UGA was going to be.

While i'm also usually guilty of dismissing MSU with out a 2nd thought....Something about Mullen
made me loook really hard into what thier upset chances were pre season. I gota say i saw that one comming a loooooonh ways off.

And may I add how much I'm enjoying the fans' reaction in Georgia. Each week I think it can't get any better. Then they lose another game, and it gets even better. If you don't live in GA you're missing a real treat.

I am hearing all the jokes about Georgia, but isn't there a need for concern with the way its going for Ricky?! If they fire him I'm afraid the odds of them coming to get KS from us are very high...does anyone else feel the same way?

I think the chances of them coming after Smart to be there Head Coach are very, very low considering he has no Head Coaching experience, has only been our DC for a year and a half, and has actually just been Saban's assistant DC and is not really totally in charge of the defense.

I'm hearing more about the possibility that they would go after Derek Dooley. How funny would it be if UT had back-to-back one year head coaches?

Seriously though, even if Richt goes 4-8, I don't see him losing his job.
