Pearl is a pipe dream imo. I don't see a major program taking him on, at least right now. I think he has to go back to a mid major and win big there first. Maybe a really, really bad major program would take a chance?
You have a point there, PJ. Geesh. They are now. I can see Pearl succeeding in a big way. All the comments that no one would have him, no one in the SEC would take him, and there were no good coaches available so Grant had to be retained... I don't know how long he'll coach or how old he is, but I'm afraid the days of Alabama beating Auburn in basketball are history.
I'd say Auburn fits the definition of a "really, really bad major program." I'm still surprised that they actually hired him and it further reinforces the belief that Auburn is win at all costs. I still think Pearl to Bama was always a pipe dream, but there's really no way to prove that. We'll see how it works out, but there ain't a snowball's chance it hell that he lures legit talent down there without bending the rules. It would be hilarious to see him get caught red-handed again, especially at Auburn.
They ca not claim they did not know what they were getting into. Someone in their athletic department was on the committee that investigsted his actions.
