Based on what we've talked about before this one would almost shock me. Nothing totally shocks me anymore in college football though.

Only reason I have a hard time believing any of this is the "coach in waiting" deal back a month or so ago. If that was the case why even do that/allow it? He had to know the rumblings of Tubberville firing were already alive. Why even go through the whole Texas pc? It's not like this is a new development.

Also based on the fact that Jacobs is still there and is very much running the show I just don't see it. What could have happened to change that I don't know.

Actually, and I'm not saying it's true but, I wouldn't think the "coach in waiting" thing would slow him down from taking another job. If my current employer wanted to name me "CEO in waiting" and give me a raise, I would take it in a second. Then, if someone else swooped in a couple of months later and wanted to give me an even bigger raise and make me their CEO today, I would take that too. I don't understand why anyone thinks being named "coach in waiting" would keep these guys from taking other jobs.

I don't know. It's such a new thing I guess I don't know how to take it. I guess I assumed it was an underhanded "deal" of sorts to stick around. Why else have the pc and all the attention that goes with it? You can tell I'm not part of the business world. :)

“I have not talked to Auburn about this job and I have no interest in the job,” said Muschamp. “I really don’t know what else to say. I’m going to stay at Texas until they fire me.”

Where have I heard this before? Why do they even bother denying interest because nobody is going to believe them.

Are you saying that he will end up at AU in your opinion?

I would be willing to bet lunch on it.

Auburn people trying to say the comment below adds credence to the Muschamp hiring, but no specific coach is mentioned other than Tubby and the LB coach.

(Auburn) LB commit Eltoro Freeman about current Auburn Linebackers Coach James Willis.

"When I signed with Auburn out of high school, I liked their school. Coach Tub was a major role in my decision, but I signed to play for Auburn University, not Coach Tub or Willis. As far as the new coach, I play on the defensive side of the ball, so who ever they hire is not going to make a major impact with my position one way or the other. If I were a QB or a RB, yea, I would want to see who they hired first. I would need to know if they were going to throw or run the ball. But the new coach is not going to impact my role. Besides, Coach Willis told me that the new coach is keeping him, and he is my position coach (LB), so I am in good hands anyway."

That is one confusing/contradicting statement if you ask me? It sounds like he is a clueless as the coaching staff...

could just be me /shrug

It makes sense to me.

One, Willis was their linebacker coach last year. Two, Willis is under a two year contract.

IF they (Auburn fans) think that "and he is my position coach" refers to Muschamp, it doesn't. It refers to Willis.

I'd imagine the Auburn administration has told Willis they plan to keep him on throughout the remainder of his contract.

IF I'm not mistaken, the rest of their assistants had contracts that ran through the end of this season and they were up for renegotiation this winter. I say that because they were right on the cusp of being vetted for 10 years in the Alabama retirement system this fall and I seem to recall a statement about their contracts being up in December of this year.

I'm just shocked that this thread has as many replies as it does :D!!!!!

I mean, really, unless Auburn hires Knute Rockne, Bama's gonna whip that azz for many years to come anyway, right?

Probably more of a response to the souse reporting than anything?

That's the plan! :D

Zeros and lot's of them. This smells like Jimmy Sexton.....

That doesn't make any sense to me. Who is he supposed to be getting more money?

Himself? Texas would have to bump Muschamps contract IF Barn made big offer. He gets a piece of every bit of ink on a contract.

The story is BS...but since you've brought it up that's already happened this year.

When Clemson was in their search mode, Auburn was just beginning theirs, and Tennessee was starting theirs as well Texas and Muschamp renegotiated Will's contract to the tune of 900K per year plus bonuses along with the coach in waiting title.

This story doesn't have any bearing on Sexton and Muschamp in terms of his contract today. And that is why I questioned your statement.

To me it does not matter either way.

Saban > Muschamp

Saban > Spurrier

Saban > Chuck Norris

Saban > Superman

Saban > Moses

Both "brought the pain" to their enemies when they came calling. And I'll grant you that Saban never had to carry a walking stick/staff, but you have to give me that Moses has done a better job of not alienating the press in Miami and Baton Rouge, so Moses has that going for him.

Lol. I will give you that.

Moses parted the Red Sea...Saban brought them together.
