Much like we did with Prothro last season when he was moved off of a athletic scholarship and into an Institutional scholly I see the possibility of four of our players following the same route this year. None of this is a given, just what I can come up with off the top of my head.

Chris Lett : Diabetes and he hasn't been able to practice with the team because of it. He's one of the reasons I see us going after a few more DB's in the '09 class.

Will Oakley : Has a problem with reoccurring hamstring injuries.

BJ Stabler : He's sitting on 3 different knee surgeries to date and is still having problems with his knee.

And the one I don't want to see...

Zeke Knight : Differing reports, but the dizzy spells look to be linked to his heart problems.

It's a point of looking at the total number right now instead of the ones recently signed.

I hate it for all of them, but I really hate it for Zeke. The guy has been through so much at Alabama, and has tried his best. He finally found a home at LB, and this happens.

I feel bad for all of them, but I really feel for Zeke too.

Zeke had a breakout year and was set to be drafted in the NFL with another good year. I hate it for him the rest as well.

So is it confirmed he won't be playing next season?

So if these four go to institutional scholarships due to medical issues, that would still leave us with 90-91 by my count, which means another 5-6 have to be trimmed.

yeah, as happy as i was about our class, i was equally confounded as to how Saban plans to fit them all in. in an interview he mentioned the possibility of greyshirting, but with so many stellar recruits i just can't see him asking more than 2 or 3 to greyshirt. :?

On the new class, getting the 30 down to 25 won't be easy, that's for sure. Wes Neighbors will be on a Bryant scholarship, which means he won't count against the 25 as long as he doesn't see game action in his first two years. I've heard that a couple of our guys are outstanding baseball players as well, and may, depending on their draft position, sign baseball contracts. Academic issues are always a possibility, but everything I've been able to read about this group shows that there aren't any "impossible dreams" out there as far as qualifying goes.

Look on the bright side...these are the kind of problems you want your team to have. Not the medical stuff, just the problem of having too many butts for the seats.

It seems that we are going to have a harder time getting the total number down to 85 than we are getting this year's class in. Neighbors counts towards the Bryant Scholly. Chris Jackson and Corey Smith are both back-counters. That puts the signing class down from 32 to 29. IF everyone qualifies, we'll have to grayshirt 4.

As for the total of 85, Terry has already mentioned some that may be placed on medical. That means we're still going to see some attrition somewhere to get down to 85.

I don't think you'll find worry and me in the same country, state, county, city, block, house... eheheh.

But, it is going to be interesting on how it's going to work out.

One of the reasons he's tight lipped about it is if were to say we are going to grey-shirt 4 players, then everyone would want to know who. There are parents out there that have volunteered to pay for their kids first year, but don't really want that information to be on the front page of papers right now.

i think zeke and bj will play. the other two i could see not ever playing another down.

I don't know about Zeke...his family is still being very, very quiet.

BJ has said he's graduating this summer and it certainly looks like he's moving on to other things.
