🏈 🔎 Looking ahead to Tennessee. How do the Vols match up with the Tide?

Bassackwards. There's Tennessee in a word.

You're going to see this pointed to a lot, I suspect. UT isn't last in the SEC in total defense: pretty damn close. It's neck and neck with the Derby folks and about 40 or so yards less than UArk in yards per game given up.

At the same time they lead the SEC in total offense with almost 530 yards per game.

YPP is the only statistical advantage I've found so far. (Vandy and Mizzou rank higher.)

I think we will be able to move the ball on this defense but can we come away with points? The main thing is to preferably put TD's on the board and not settle for field goals. Kicking field goals has been a challenge from longer distances.

On the flip side, UT(e) can put points on the board as well. How well our defense responds will be the outcome of the game. It very well could come down to a shootout with both offenses scoring a lot of points. I am not sure what the over is this week but it very well could be something to look hard at if you play the Sports book.

You're the second person I've seen mention RZ offense this morning. I don't get this.

On Offense we SHOULD be able to move the balll through the ground game more. Tennessee is like Missouri. They can put points on board. The difference is that They have shitty defense.

What baffles me the most about Tennessee this year and we actually have some data to look at unlike Missouri and So, this is what puzzles me the most:

Tenn went toe to toe with Georgia and went into overtime 44-41 and lost.
Alabama beat Georgia 24-21.
I'm like okay this could be a legit team if they could fix their defense..... Next game. how do you give up 24 points to UAB that's incredible bad?

Miss State. You go on the road for the first time and You went to war with them 41-34 in OT. now, TN has two OT .

The first four game, TN is putting up 21, 21, 24 points in first quarter. But the last two games... nope.

For context: Arkansas is last in Scoring defense. Tennessee is right above them. Miss State is #11. Georgia is #5.

TN is giving up 30 points on the road. Alabama is giving up 9 points at home.

Oh, Here's an interesting stat: Time of possession: Missouri is #2 national ranked. Alabama is #7 TN is #125

So if I was Alabama... I would Get the points on the board in the 1st quarter. Score as much as we can. Drain the clock often. Make it hard for TN to come back.

Defense: Prioritize stopping their run game and making sure we have safeties to prevent deep passes. Limit explosive plays. Get after Joey Aguilar. He has been sacked 3 times this year. When he's under pressure, he doesn't make best decisions.
His number aren't good on the road. I don't think he ever experienced hostile situation at Alabama game.

I'm not concerned about redzone offense. Missouri- We went 4 for 4 in Redzone with 3 TDs and 1 FG. Not bad. Vandy, we went 5 for 5 with 3 FGs. For the season we have 20 TDs and 7 FGs so we're 96 percent successful in that area. I think we're fine.

Secondly: I don't think it'll be a shootout. I really don't.

@Brandon Van de Graaff

Alabama beat Georgia
Georgia beat Tennessee.

And, a reminder, you asked for this every week. Thankfully, transitive wins were easy today.

I suspect our game plan on offense will be much like it was against Georgia.

Get into 3rd and shorts, eat clock. Timely running with some play action down the field.

Defensively, don’t get into a track meet. Make them earn every bit of the yards. Keep everything in front. They gonna score and move the ball. We just can’t let them score on big play after big play. IMO

We should have won last year. We are better and our QB this year will not make the stupid plays our QB did in this game last year.

We need to clean up the matador pass protection we saw against Mizz. RT was killing us and it looks like the running backs have no clue as to where the pressure is coming from until it is too late. I don't know if this is communication issues and the backs are not hearing the protection call from the OL or what but at times it looks like they are just guessing as to where pressure is coming from.

Tennessee will stretch a field. That concerns me. Brown I'm fine with, but Dijon better put his running shoes on and flip his hips quicker than he did against Florida State. Saab looked slow against Missouri, but hopefully he can quarterback deep secondary.

I think we'll be fine, but we better not take our football off the pedal offensively like we have done.
