🏈 Mac Jones

He was not having a great game in the second half with their run blitzes. The only success Bama was having at the time with the running game was to the outside and passing plays.

A goal line situation doesn't free up the outside like you'd see between the 20's.

You're saying "bad call" when the option you're suggesting is running right in the teeth of a defense in a run blitz where they were not having success.
Now, the point you're driving at with "under center" means what in this situation? We're still left with what Auburn was calling on first downs.

A goal line situation doesn't necessarily free up a horizontal pass either... Right?

Again, minimize risk under the CONTEXT of the situation. QB, RB, OL, potential INT, I could go on but the point has been made. It played out the way it did for a number of reasons that are clearly identified after the play, and should have been identified before the play.

Even if we get stuffed.......? Again - Risk vs Reward. A first down run makes way more sense

So what say you if we convert for 0 points there? Easy to speak after the fact, but that was a fluke of him getting hit in the back and the ball falling right into the gut of a defender not even seeing the ball being thrown. All fluke.

Risk vs, reward, what if they block a field goal after we get stuffed three times and take it back for six. Way more probable than what happened in my mind.

I got nothing for that.... 😂

This is my opinion on the pic6. It seems to me that a blitz is a blitz, whether the QB hands off to the RB or runs it himself or drops back to pass or bootlegs as what was called and failed. Don't all blitzers just go after the ball, no matter what play is called or who has the ball? So, if you believe aub is going to blitz on first down, would it not be a better play to line up in a run like formation with 2 tight ends, play action pas to one of the TE who slips into the back of the end zone or to one of the 2 wide outs? A play like that would have given 7 blockers to handle the blitzers and should have given Qb plenty of time to find open receiver or throw the ball away if every one is covered.

Some context that I have not seen mentioned, we do not have the privilege of seeing what happens in practice. Why I think that is important is that coaches tell players to "trust" their preparation. This may be one of those plays Jones has shown to do well executing in practice. If so not sure why Sark would be concerned about calling this play so I can at least understand the call. When you start talking about risk vs reward that is subjective. I am conservative by nature but my boss on the other hand is not. He will always take more chances than I do.

With all that said to me it is 1st and 2 and if you can't get 2 yards regardless of what the D is doing you do not deserve to win. I would have ran it 4 times and at some point we either man up or we do not. Just my old minds way of thinking.

What did we run, 5-6 plays inside the 9 on that possession (the final pick-6)? Couple of AU penalties helped us out. But we should have scored before the play in question even occurred in my opinion. But heck, it’s all water under the bridge now. It hurt, it’s over. Season over. I’m ready for next August to hurry up.... I don’t like any of the teams in the final 4!

I know. You just said you weren't a fan of Sarks. I just was pointing out that he called a pretty damn good game and has all year. Thought it might "sway your opinion".

I don't think you can put this on Banks. Yes, he is the special teams coach, BUT he doesn't have the final say as to whether the punt return team, punt safe, or regular defense stays or goes on the field.
Yep....havent not ever been a Sark fan...ever... ( like many arent Shula fans)
I hear ya....and hate-to be critical....
And i dont blame players...ever..( but FG at such a range...and not the first time...for bama at AU....so i go with just AU selling their sole)
But...had to be some fault for 12 men on field at critical time..thats not players fault...Or pass to RB in flat at 1-3 yard line. ... ( bad passes in flat...if pass is bad...are returned for big yardage’s)
Looking at play on dvr...looks like STs coach...
And trying to get returner off-field is what AU wanted... fell into outcoached medium..
But its over..so what..
Just pisses me off.. we had Championship talent...with or without Tua...and shit the bed....

Arm chair QBs....
Hind sight is always 20/20, if they score on that play they’re all geniuses!!!!

Trust me when I tell you... If it wasn't for the fervor of the "arm chair" QB's and 20/20 hindsight fans, there's a lot of coaches out there who'd be a lot less important and making a lot less money. So................... It comes with the territory.

They're all more than capable of volunteering or working a 9-5 elsewhere.... My guess is they'll get over it! And if not, someone else would love to be second guessed for 6-7 Figures. RTR

Mac really played great for the most part and despite the bad play choice on 1st and goal sark called a very good game. Honestly I was skeptical of sark coming back until I remembered how well he did his last year in Atlanta. He really made the offense more diverse than locks did in 2018. Hoping we ll get even more physical next year in the running game while keeping the RPO stuff and play action. Mac should be given first crack...he's earned the chance , but if Young is what myself and the recruiting gurus believe him to be then Nick shouldn't hesitate to start him by midseason . BY is a special talent that adds more mobility than any qb we ve ever gotten here. Also comes from a family that is a lot like Tua's. Very grounded, humble kid that won't expect anything handed to him. GMac seemed to indicate we may have more guys returning than we think. If we can get just Smitty and either leatherwood or wills back I'll be very pumped about the offense to keep rolling along. We aren't going anywhere despite the haters wanting us in the grave.

Really??????
A great job in Atlanta....
7-9.....with a shit load of Offense
About right though...
A comparison or evaluation of a college football head coach should never be based on what they did or didn't do in the NFL. You've been around long enough to know this.

Saban at Miami or Stallings with the Cardinals settles that story.

It's no different than the assumption that just because they did well in college they'll do well in the pro's.

Because, if those coaches are paying attention to these fervorous fans they'd be sitting right alongside them: in the stands. We all know you'd had called a running play into a run blitz last Saturday.

Even a half ass throw there and Najee scores six. It was just a bad throw, and a bad bounce, not a bad call. Tua threw a pick six on an out route against Clemson, and he can make every throw in the book. So was that a bad play call or just a poor pass/read? Tua fumbling against LSU on the four yard line. Was that a bad call or just a bad bounce of luck that it squirts out of his arm with no contact, after it was tucked?

Let's not forget Mac was hit as he released the ball and was forced to throw it early due to immediate pressure. He was just hoping Najee would turn around before the ball got there. Absent the fluke carom, it wasn't at risk of being an INT.

I do know...but just saying.... 7-9 record...
Injuries....schedule.. whatever...excuses....
Just responded to @Vabama77 ....
More diverse Offense comment...
no more comments on Sark.... for me

Damn straight! All day. And while you're playing in the mud - What would you have called?

And if it wasn't for you providing this forum for crazy fans, arm chair QB's, and the PERFECT FANS (whoever that is), Alabama football wouldn't be the same. It's a beautiful thing.

We all play a part!

Sark called an excellent game. Bama scores 40 points on likely the best defense in college football. left untold numbers of points off the board due to errors. I'm not a fan of passing the ball when you have 3 downs from the 2 yard line. I don't mind saying that... but the player was open on the play.. just a bad throw under duress + some Auburn magic which we all know exists.
