šŸ€ Key Transferring From Tide Basketball

A day after the announcement that Carl Engstrom will forego his final year of eligibility with the Alabama men’s basketball team, Coach Anthony Grant revealed that upcoming senior guard Algie Key would be transferring from the Crimson Tide program. Key started off so well, then fell off the map. I was disappointed in his play, for sure.

A few months ago I mentioned to you that I was getting the feeling Coop was better used in a SG role versus having to slide him down underneath. He provided that second scorer needed for Grant's offense to have success. When he's not playing that role, it's my opinion he's being used incorrectly.

With Key, I've seen him more of a role player as of late—a defensive specialist, if you will. Is this the limit of what he can provide? Is he being used incorrectly?

Key as a scorer was a slash to the basket type rather than a perimeter shooter. He was reputed to be a defender, but the defensive plays that jumped at me were hi being late getting to three point shooters, including times when he fouled the shooter well after the shot was gone. He was not a factor on offense against zones. By the end of the season Obasahon was getting his minutes, as an upgrade on defense.

With the roster for next year shaping up as it is, I can't help but think we will continue to see Cooper getting big minutes at the 4.
