📝 Kevin Harris commits!

Sweeeet. I thought his body and game was a lot like Rashaan Evans out of HS. Looks like he may be taller and with some lbs more fit to stick at OLB here. What I like that I read was how he's apparently as hard a worker as anyone in the class and loved to compete. Samt kind of attitude our best players have had. RTR

Grayson has produced a lot of major talent. It doesn't seem like we ever get anyone out of that program so it would be nice to break through.

A lot? Dang right - a lot this year apparently!!!

Graduation day: Four HS teammates commit

They currently have TEN D1 commits playing as seniors!! GEEZ!!

Hate that we missed out on Pappoe - been talking about him on here for 2 years - but a great get in Harris!

The commitment
Kevin Harris
, four-star defensive end from Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, announced his commitment moments ago to the University of Alabama. Harris picked Alabama instead of Miami and LSU. Miami was the only threat as of recently. Harris received an offer from Alabama in March. He visited Tuscaloosa twice during the spring with his family. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound athlete is recruited as an outside linebacker. Tosh Lupoi led the way in recruiting the Peach State product.

The player
“Harris is a long, lean edge rusher who is likely going to be a stand-up linebacker in the Alabama defense. He excels with speed off the edge. He has a good first step and when he turns the corner, he can really close on the quarterback. He has to get stronger and add weight and that should come in time. Against the run, he has to get better at the point of attack and improve his ability to shed blocks. He is all about potential and upside. His work ethic combined with his natural ability makes you think he is going to successful on the next level.”- Southeast recruiting analyst Chad Simmons

“High energy kid who has a non-stop motor. Needs to fill out but is angular and can get skinny and has excellent bend around the corner. Very quick first step. Will be an excellent pass rusher and could be a hybrid guy”- National recruiting director Mike Farrell

The numbers
The numbers crunch are awfully tight at the linebacker position. Alabama has three stud commitments in Harris, King Mwikuta, Rivals100 outside linebacker from Troup County High School in LaGrange, Georgia, and Shane Lee, Rivals100 inside linebacker from St. Francis in Baltimore. This is where things start to get a little tricky moving forward.

There is no doubt Nakobe Dean, Rivals100 inside linebacker from Horn Lake High School in Mississippi, has a spot available. He is high on the Crimson Tide’s wish list. Dean is safe. Kayvon Thibodeaux, five-star defensive end from Oaks Christian in Westlake Village, California, is also safe. Thibodeaux is heavily recruited by Alabama as an outside/Jack linebacker. The plan has been for Alabama to sign five linebackers across the board- outside/middle/jack.

Plans can change. Alabama may decide to take six. A lot depends on who wants to commit and who is still available when the dust settles. Dean and Thibodeaux are high value targets. Alabama is also high on Christian Harris, three-star athlete from University Lab School in Baton Rouge. Nolan Smith Rivals100 defensive end from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, is a definite take. Smith has visited Alabama a few times, but there is a slim chance he flips from UGA.

A few other linebackers recruited by Alabama include Kalen DeLoach, three-star from Islands High School in Savannah, Lavonta Bentley, four-star from Jackson-Olin High School in Birmingham, and Lakia Henry, from Dodge City Community College in Kansas.

All four players obviously were not interested in following each other as they all took a different path. But none to Georgia. They were calling Pappoe to the barn for a few weeks but when was the last time they were able to pull in a 5 *? Good get for them but can Gus keep Kirby away? Tennessee wasn't doing anything of note on the recruiting trail and they pull 5* OT in Morris. Pruitt needs talent and lots of it. I will be shocked if Grayson doesn't win the state this season.

Two years ago, when his name first started catching attention, he had the look to be a great one. In those two years he's hit a slump, so to speak, instead of the growth spurt most kids hit around this age. From what I've learn his recruitment boiled down to an eyeball test ... 6', just now breaking the 200 lb mark ... doesn't fit with that OLB picture. I also heard Bama was cooling off on his...geez, while back now.

One thing that caught my attention is if he's not a good fit for the Tide's system how is he a good fit for the Bulldogs? He really isn't. This whole story reads like something that's not going to sit well with some of the UGA faithful. It's a perception issue, and it's not a good one...never is when a highly ranked player is plucked--especially if they are plucked by Auburn. (yeah, I thought about the play on words.)

I live about 15 miles from Grayson they are a perennial powerhouse. The state of GA is loaded again this year 9 of the top 50 in the ESPN top 300 and 36 total are in this state.

I have always thought the same thing about Grayson and why we could never pierce the armor. To be quite frank though, their players have never really been superstars in college though. Nkemdechie, in my eyes, was nowhere the player the media thought he was. I think they just covered their tails for making him the #1 player in the country, but I just never felt he did much at Ole Miss, and clearly his laziness and idiotic tendencies have come to light as an Arizona Cardinal.

Either way, I'm glad we finally got a guy from Grayson, because I think our coaching staff can utilize him and get the most out of him. Georgia is less than an hour away, so a lot of people say that's the reason we don't get them, but their guys go all over the place, so I would be very curious to know why until now we never got in on one of the premier programs in the state of Georgia. Could it be the evaluation process doing its job?

He's been a big time name in Georgia since middle school, so to see him slow down like this is puzzling to me. He is still highly ranked, very talented, and programs want him, but it seems like the fire has died down on him a little. I feel he never gave us a glance, and like you said we just moved on a long long time ago. I think you hit the nail on the head that he was a big dude early in his career, but has not grown to the likes of his surroundings, so that could be why he has cooled, or it could just be because he has been hyped for so long. Dylan Moses was the same way. His could have came from a position change, but he was the sure thing #1 for like 2.5 years, and then dropped to a dang high four star and had to regain that fifth. Maybe Pappoe will be like Moses and make those that doubted him sorry, but I agree that it is interesting how he has cooled in the last year or so.

The article that was released today suggested that the 5* players we recruit at Bama make the NFL 1st round at double the rate of any other 5* star player being recruited anywhere in the country. Is that because of Bama preparation or the type of 5* we are recruiting? I'm pretty sure not all 5* are created equal.

With Mickey Conn there it was like a joke with the boys. "You gonna be Conn's boy and go to Bama?" Then Bama started winning and the joke went away. Then he left so...

Robert was lazy and his best year was his Soph year. His Jr year we won state and he was high on Bama. At practice he heard, "you will not do that at Bama. They are gonna work your ass." Ole Mi$$ already had his brother on campus and then they had his Daddy's ear$ so it was a done deal. Plus Saban flat out said if he will not work in the classroom why would he work on the field? Bama was cold on him on Jan his Jr year. And he ate his way out of a DE pos. Wasted talent.

Do not know this guy but hopefully it will lead to other guys.
