Wow, if true the TPD has some 'splainin to do. I don't know the time frame for an incident like this progresses, but I wold think quicker than this. I know if it was my daughter, Jameis Winston would have been choking on his own peter really really quick, if the TPD didn't put him in protective custody. I really am afraid of what I would do if anyone hurt one of my children. It scares me to even think about it. I liken it to the old testament, an eye for an eye.

We see stories come out of papers like the B-ham news and some of those are looked at with skepticism—rightfully so in some situations.

The Tampa Bay Times isn't one of those newspapers. In the southeast, it's one of the most respected amongst its peers.

As mentioned at the top of page three in this thread, the point there were three of their writers collaborating on this story when it broke told me something was amiss and they were onto a story.

I feel so bad for the victim. At the end of the day, someone hurt this young woman and everyone just bashes her and calls her derogatory names and accuses her of lying or doesn't take her seriously. Are there people who fake this stuff for attention/to hurt others? Of course. Are the vast majority of these cases serious? YES. There are always a few idiots who ruin it for everyone else.

When I was 15, I remember hearing about a girl from a local high school who was raped by the star tailback when he offered to drive her home once .. Her family pressed charges .. His uncle was a police chief .. And guess what? The story only ever amounted to whispers in the hall, with the girl and her family being bullied so bad (from classmates, teachers, coaches, and parents) that they moved ..

When I was 12, I was the victim of a computers teacher: sexual harassment and inappropriate touching. Along with 23 other girls and boys. We went to court and testified, and this process took years. Our school principal (who had hired this man because he went to the same church as she did, and ran a Sunday school) said we had "conspired" to get an "innocent man fired" and that we were "just children who were confused". Nobody took us seriously. Verdict? Not guilty. Years later, some of my classmates are still in therapy. And this guy still has his teaching license. He tried to add me on Facebook a few years ago, smdh ..

These things ALWAYS need to be taken seriously and properly investigated, whether it seems "fake", whether a famous person is involved, whatever. The truth must come out, and justice must prevail.

And people need to stop blaming the victim. Shame on those in the Seminoles fan base (and people in general) for harassing this woman and her family (the crap I have been reading on the internet is crazy). And shame on the TPD if the reports are true.

Everyone is so quick to trash her, and defend Jameis .. Dude hasn't even been CHARGED yet. It may not have even BEEN him.

And the people trashing Jameis already are just as bad as those who trash the victim .. CAN WE PLEASE WAIT FOR THE FACTS BEFORE WE JUDGE??? :twothumbs:

"1. If Winston's attorney was aware of the case in February 2013, why didn't Detective Angulo collect DNA evidence, interview Winston, and conduct a proper investigation.

"2. Why did it take Detective Angulo four months to verbally inform the family of the blood work results?

"3. Why was Winston not listed as the suspect in the police report once he was identified in early January?

"4. Why is it being represented in the press that the victim was intoxicated when Detective Angulo told the family that the victim was not intoxicated based on the blood work?

It always amazes me how many people won't fight for whats right. No way in hell I could look my daughter in the eyes if I told her to move on from this and support her being quiet about the whole thing.

The family of the alleged victim who identified Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston who sexually assaulted her in December has released a statement calling into question the “Tallahassee Police Department’s questionable investigation into the rape of the victim.”

In an official statement released to the Tampa Bay Times, the family of the alledged victim stated that Tallahassee Police warned the individual against pursuing charges.

“When the attorney contacted Detective Angulo immediately after Winston was identified Detective Angulo told the attorney that Tallahassee was a big football town and the victim needs to think long and hard before proceeding against him because she will be raked over the coals and her life will be made miserable,” the statement said.

Other information from the statement clarifies that on Dec. 7, 2012, the woman filed a claim with the police that she was raped by an unknown person. Later, in early January, she identified Jameis Winston as the attacker, which then led to the family’s concern that she “would be targeted on campus” due to her claim.

Although he was a five-star recruit and the MVP of the Under Armour All-American Game in high school, Winston’s popularity wasn’t close to what it is today a year ago. In December/January, former FSU quarterback Clint Trickett was the Seminoles’ next man in the QB depth chart and baseball season had yet to start.

However, in mid-April later that year, his two-touchdown and 12-for-15 performance in the Garnet and Gold Spring scrimmage boosted Winston’s popularity locally and nationally.
Representing the victim is an “attorney friend,” according to the family, and was in discussions with law enforcement and Detective Angulo. Both the attorney and Detective Angulo talked of suspending the investigation so the victim could receive counseling, but the attorney requested law enforcement to still obtain DNA and blood work results for the family.

“At that time, Detective Angulo specifically refused to collect Winston’s DNA or interview Winston’s roommate who witnessed the attack,” the family wrote in the statement. “Detective Angulo stated that such activity would alert Winston and the matter could go public.”

The family states that the victim, their counsel and themselves were made available to the Tallahassee Police Department and were “shocked” to learn Winston and his attorney had not only be made aware of the case, but that Winston and his attorney had been told by TPD the case was closed in February.

The family also questions why the press has represented the victim as being intoxicated the night of the attack as Detective Angulo informed the family that the victim was not based on blood work. The police report filed by TPD of the incident states for victim’s actions before/during offense as “drinking.”

In closing of the statement, the family stated it was never their intention for the matter to be made public nor have they “been the source of any information prior to this release.”

In an email obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat, City Manager Anita Favors said that the case was not pursued because the victim didn’t want to press charges. In the email, Favors says that the TPD was given the case by the FSUPD after it was determined that the incident happened off campus.

She goes on to say that the woman became intoxicated at a local bar and was then taken advantage of. TPD tried to interview the victim, but she stopped communicating with the department.

“Shortly thereafter a representative of the young woman’s family who is an attorney contacted TPD and said the young woman had changed her mind and did not wish to prosecute,” the email said.

In Florida State’s Intercollegiate Athletics Policies and Procedures handbook, it’s said that if an individual is charged with a felony, they will be suspended indefinitely by the university until the situation is resolved, absent of what they label “extraordinary circumstances.”

“In the event the student-athlete is charged with a felony, absent extraordinary circumstances as determined by the administration, he/she will not be permitted to represent FSU Athletics in game competition until such time as the charge is resolved and all court, university and athletics department conditions for reinstatement have been met.”

The family also questioned why the Florida State University Police Department received a copy of the police report after the case was handed to TPD, stating FSUPD has a conflict of interest because of their relationship with the school. FSUPD Deputy Chief of Police Maj. Jim Russell stated in an email to the FSView he could not “provide a statement concering [TPD’s] open and on-going investigation.”
