🏈 Jameis Winston is being investigated for sexual assault

When you get to this late in the season, and you are at the top of the BCS, if there are things like this that can be uncovered, they will. It's not 1980 anymore. Folks are always looking for the sexy scandal, just like in politics come election time, and there are plenty to be had in both worlds... I'm sure everyone recalls Manti Te'o last year... Welcome to the Big Leagues Florida State...

That mirrors my first thought.

There's one thing that jumped out at me when I read the story. This isn't something that one beat writer has just thrown out there because he "got wind of a story." If you didn't notice there are three of their writers with by-lines on the story. That tells me those three are have all had their hands in researching this story.

IF it's a "pot-stir" by the Democrat it's one that's not only been researched but it's orchestrated. Outside "influences," and suggestions revolving around that type of conspiracy, can be dismissed summarily. The odds are infinitesimal an anti-FSU group has pulled three sports reporters in to do something...

Good gosh man, throw that word at the Stanford people.

I agree though the odds are zero. Good point.

There is alot of fishy stuff about this. First, it takes them 10 months to send the case to the state attorney? What the hell? Second reportedly the victim described her attacker initially as "around 5'10 or 5'11"... Winston is 6'4"... no way you can mix that up. This story is just gonna get more bizarre I'm afraid.

From the Tampa Bay Times:
State Attorney Willie Meggs would not confirm that Winston is the subject of the investigation. He told the Miami Herald he did not know why it took 11 months for police to ask his office to get involved in the investigation: "I don't have the answer to that. You'll have to contact the police department."

Hmmm.

I have never mistaken a 6'6" guy as being 5'9" to 5'11" no matter how young I was or how much I had to drink. Huge difference! RTR!

Me personally, I can't tell the difference. I am terrible at judging size. My boyfriend is 6'3", and I kept telling people (who asked frequently, because he is actually a full foot taller than me) he was 5'9" for the longest time because I never thought to ask and it just seemed like a "good" measurement.

So it's not crazy to think someone could misjudge a person's height. Plus, alcohol can certainly impair your judgement .. as well as mental trauma, which could accompany sexual assault.

You are right on the height thing Philly, I'm 5'9 and my son is 6'2 and unless we are standing next to each other it's hard to tell the difference AND if some one is inebriated or otherwise drugged it would be even more difficult.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- As of Thursday morning, Florida State freshman quarterback Jameis Winston had exercised his right not to speak with Tallahassee police or provide a statement in the ongoing investigation of a sexual assault complaint filed nearly a year ago, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Winston's attorney, Tim Jansen, was originally contacted about the case in February. Since then, no charges have been filed and Winston has not been interviewed. On Wednesday, the case was turned over to the state attorney, who has asked the Tallahassee police to further investigate the allegations.

Heisman front-runner Jameis Winston is involved in a sexual assault investigation stemming from a complaint filed in late 2012.
Attempts to reach Jansen on Thursday were unsuccessful.

Georgia Cappleman, chief assistant state attorney, said Thursday she could not speak as to why there was a delay in prosecutors receiving the case. She also said there is no timeline for a decision on how to proceed with the case, though no decision is expected within the next few days.

Typically, a delay can result from a lack of evidence or a lack of cooperation from the accuser.

Florida State released a statement Wednesday saying Winston's status with the team has not changed. The quarterback met with reporters later without addressing the investigation.

"We are aware of a matter that was investigated by the Tallahassee Police Department almost a year ago," the school said in the statement. "Because the investigation has not been closed by TPD, we cannot comment further at this time. We look forward to a speedy resolution of the issue. There is no change in Jameis Winston's status."

The school was responding to multiple reports connecting Winston to an incident on Dec. 7. In response to those reports, police issued the following statement: "The Tallahassee Police Department has received several requests from local and national media for a case TPD received on December 7th, 2012, of an alleged sexual battery. The case was assigned to the Special Victims Unit. TPD is continuing its investigation and has consulted with the state attorney as to the direction of the case. A copy of the original report is attached to this email, which has been redacted to meet the requirements of Florida Statute 119."

The incident report does not name Winston and describes the offender as being between 5-foot-9 and 5-11. Winston is listed by Florida State as being 6-4.

Florida State is 9-0 and second in the BCS standings. The Seminoles host Syracuse on Saturday.

Winston has been spectacular in his first college season, passing for 2,661 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Information from ESPN's Mark Schlabach and David M. Hale was used in this report.

In my opinion, if someone doesn't make a statement either way, it usually means they are guilty of something, but in this country you are innocent until proven guilty and I will wait and see what happens. I feel that even if he is guilty nothing will happen.

good post Phillygirl

You can't tell that he's 12 inches vs 6 inches taller?

Nope.

When I look at certain photos, the size is obvious, but when I am with him I am looking up, usually at a close range, so it's hard for me to gauge. It only looks like a few inches. If he is across a room, it's even harder for me to gauge because he looks more "level".

Actually, I remember reading somewhere that women tend to lack the spatial recognition that men do, especially when said women are more "right-brained" then "left-brained". Food for thought.

For reference, here are some photos of us together (don't judge meeee). On the left is how we appear to everybody. On the right is more how I see it from my perspective: a lot more ambiguous than the obvious numbers imply.

At the end of the day, the point is this: it sounds silly that someone wouldn't be able to gauge 6'5" from 5'11". But it's difficult enough for some people to eyeball it (actually, many people), even WITHOUT alcohol or mental trauma impeding your memory and awareness. It's not like the victim said the perpetrator was something outrageous like 3'4" or 8'2". She is only off by a few inches, IF he is the guy who did it. He is only being INVESTIGATED for it, not charged, and described height from a traumatized victim is not the determining factor in booking somebody.

We won't know for another couple months who did it, but let's hope that whoever is responsible faces justice for what they did

I agree with birdman and also judge philly girl a hottie. Respectfully submitted of course. As to her rather large manfriend, he is no doubt aware of her hotness and he is probably proud that other men admire her stellar womanly qualities, provided they keep their hands to themselves and their eyes above her shoulders.

With that said, she is absolutely right about peoples ability (or lack thereof) to judge height, especially woman. Just ask any police officer.

Wow, Philly, If I was 20 or 30 something years younger..... On that whole spacial thing though, my wife say's I am spacial judgement challenged. I think 6 inches equals 10 inches some how and she would kill me if she knew I was telling. Yeah, and what about the no crimson in any picture thing? I know, it's hard to get Alabama stuff here in Michigan too, we have to order it online most of the time, or when we visit the grand parents which is few and far between. It takes another budget just for buying t-shirts when we do go.

lol at suggesting him getting an attorney somehow incriminates him. I would hope anyone that is charged with such a crime would have an attorney :chat_headscratch:

I'm not ready to cremate the kid yet... its never cool to suggest someone that is accusing someone of a rape but at the same time we've seen these types of things against athletes before turn out to be BS and you can't get your reputation back. I will reserve judgment until the facts are put out there.

Yes I agree that no one should be charged with a crime that they didn't commit. However I tried to put myself in his shoes. If some one made an allegation of sexual assault toward me, I would confront that allegation with immediate response to get it resolved because I would know that it would be false. To let it linger for a year troubles me even though you are dealing with the government. I would make public the evidence that I had nothing to do with it. A sexual assault allegation is a terrible thing if you are innocent. If I was at a party or in the vicinity of where it took place and was innocent then I would go after that the same way. FSU has a history of covering up issues. (Remember the shoes).

If they are in a cover up then that should be exposed. This is a very serious issue.
