The Tallahassee Police Department last year received a complaint of sexual battery against Florida State University star quarterback Jameis Winston. No charges have been filed against Winston, and the investigation remains active.

Winston is scheduled to speak to media at 7 p.m.

The complaint was filed Dec. 7, 2012, according to TPD reports. The complainant is cooperating with the State Attorney’s Office, said Officer David Northway, spokesman for TPD.

ā€œThe case is open and active and the victim is working with the State Attorney’s Office,ā€ Northway said.

Tallahassee attorney Tim Jansen confirmed he is representing Winston.

TPD released an incident report on Wednesday in response to a request from the Tallahassee Democrat for any and all reports related to Winston.

The report, which was heavily redacted, does not mention Winston by name. It says the complaint was received at 4:10 a.m. and that the sexual battery occurred earlier in the morning of Dec. 7, 2012, between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. The exact location was not listed, though the report says it happened at an apartment.

The incident report says the suspect is unknown. The narrative description from the investigating officer is redacted.

The incident report indicated that evidence was collected from the complainant’s body. Photos also were taken of the complainant.

The victim told police she had been drinking alcohol the night of the incident.

Georgia Cappleman, chief assistant state attorney, said she can’t discuss the case because it’s an open investigation.

In a news release sent this evening, Northway said TPD had received several requests from local and national media about the complaint of a sexual battery.

ā€œThe case was assigned to the Special Victims Unit,ā€ Northway said. ā€œTPD is continuing its investigation and has consulted with the State Attorney as to the direction of the case.ā€

The Democrat on Wednesday morning requested police reports involving Winston. Throughout the day, TPD officials said they were redacting documents in response to the request. At 4:59 p.m., Northway sent an email to a Democrat reporter containing the incident report. Minutes later the police department released the incident report, without reference to Winston, to other media.

Winston, a redshirt freshman who has led Florida State to a 9-0 record and No. 2 national ranking, is considered a front-runner for the Heisman Trophy.
In his first season of college football, the Alabama native has completed 69.2 percent of his passes (166 of 240) for 2,661 yards, with 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He is passing for 295.7 yards per game.

Winston ranks No. 2 nationally in passing efficiency, fifth in passing touchdowns, ninth in completion percentage and 12th nationally in passing yards per game.

He has been profiled by virtually every national media outlet, including a more than 3,500-word piece this week in ESPN The Magazine.

My favorite tweet so far? @XxleanbeanzxX: "Guarantee it's bammers behind this Jameis Winston story"

I just wonder how long FSU has known about it. They only chose to address the media after TMZ broke the story about an hour ago, it seems.

FSU: "We look forward to a speedy resolution of the issue. There is no change in Jameis Winston's status"

^the heavily redacted police report .. note that the suspect is described as being between 5'9" and 5'11". Winston is 6'5". Granted, I can't gauge a person's height by looking at them (much less after drinking) but still.

Pathetic attempt by Manziel to try to get that second Heisman trophy :smiley-no-no-yellow

Does this picture help?

lol at suggesting him getting an attorney somehow incriminates him. I would hope anyone that is charged with such a crime would have an attorney :chat_headscratch:

I'm not ready to cremate the kid yet... its never cool to suggest someone that is accusing someone of a rape but at the same time we've seen these types of things against athletes before turn out to be BS and you can't get your reputation back. I will reserve judgment until the facts are put out there.

I'm not calling guilty or not, but it seems strange that this occurs in Dec. 2012 and it only hits the State Atty's office today after the media gets wind of Winston being involved and the media keeps hounding the TPD for the information. This could end up ugly on so many different fronts; 1) the girl made up the story in an attempt for money( would seem doubtful since evidence was taken at the time of the report, physical evidence and pics), 2) Winston is innocent of all charges but his reputation is tarnished because we know in this day and age, you are guilty til proven innocent and then you're still garbage, 3) Winston is guilty and the promising career of a young athlete is ruined because they feel they are ABOVE the law, 4) FSU is found to have attempted to cover this up in an attempt to save a season for a National Championship AND Winston is guilty!

Yeah you have to wonder why it took the media so long to get wind of it.

Not to mention .. If the alleged victim was just trying to get attention or whatever and made it all up, why didn't she break the story herself, a year ago?

The timing is definitely odd. And you gotta wonder how long FSU has been aware of this.

But innocent until proven guilty either way. He's just being investigated right now, not charged. He's a suspect.

Unless the kid already has money, it can't be about gold digging. I find this troubling that its been covered up this long and it comes out while the guy is having a stellar year. I will refrain from judgement also until the truth plays out. Not a good thing to have in wait for such a promising future. I hope it is all BS, cause if it is not, its some serious charges.

Here we go again (same as TX, Colt M.). Winston gets suspended (for whatever reason), FSU still get's to the BCS national championship game, loses to Alabama in Pasadena, and the Tallahassee syndicate carries on ad infinitum about what might have been if "Famous Jameis" had been in the game.

When you get to this late in the season, and you are at the top of the BCS, if there are things like this that can be uncovered, they will. It's not 1980 anymore. Folks are always looking for the sexy scandal, just like in politics come election time, and there are plenty to be had in both worlds... I'm sure everyone recalls Manti Te'o last year... Welcome to the Big Leagues Florida State...

Yep, and that's why I find it troubling, run the big story before the facts come out, to get readers. These are college guys, there should be some sort of understanding to this, they are young and if it is false you could ruin the young guys career. This charge is a serious charge if it sticks and if he is guilty of it he should get hammered, but if it isn't true, you run the risk of ruining this young mans reputation. Screwed up stuff IMO.

There is alot of fishy stuff about this. First, it takes them 10 months to send the case to the state attorney? What the hell? Second reportedly the victim described her attacker initially as "around 5'10 or 5'11"... Winston is 6'4"... no way you can mix that up. This story is just gonna get more bizarre I'm afraid.
