🏈 GAME THREAD It's Tennessee Hate Week (which happens to be the 3rd Saturday in October.)

You couldn't ask for a fairer fight on enemy soil than playing in neyland this week. They have got some injuries that almost defy logic the way they've been dropping. Their LB, Kirkland may be back, but how much of him at 100%? Their other LB, Reeves-Maybin, is officially through for the season with shoulder surgery planned. Cam Sutton has a broken foot and reserves are limping as well. Last season they came in healthy and rested off a bye. This time, we are both playing after a 6-week schedule and with tennessee having major defensive depth issues coming off a grueling, 5 hour OT loss in enemy territory.

Their DC, Shoop has the vols as the 83rd ranked total defense in the nation and 95th ranked against the run. Bringing new meaning to Shoop's preseason taunt, "Nobody, will run on the orange swarm, nobody!"

Would have to be roughly 8 years ago or so, I was up in Celina, TX (just north of me) at a pumpkin patch owned by Bill Bates...want to say it was a few hours before the game. I gave him a good Roll Tide and he just smiled. Made some small talk and such. I doubt he'll be at the pumpkin patch on during the game with his son playing.

Dude sure could lay the wood.

Yes till he met a guy named Walker one night!

Tennessee was down four major starters coming into Saturday’s game against Texas A&M. By the time the Vols left College Station, five additional players had injuries that forced them to leave the game. Three other players went down during course of the game but later returned.

The injury situation has gotten so dire that that Coach Butch Jones stated in his postgame press conference that he will no longer be talking about any team injuries.

Here’s a complete wrap up of what we know about every injury the Vols have suffered so far…
  • According to reports, senior linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin (shoulder) is having season-ending surgery within the next two weeks.
  • Senior defensive back Cam Sutton has a broken ankle and has the possibility to return near the end of the season but may be lost for the year.
  • Junior running back Jalen Hurd didn’t travel with the team to College Station due to an “undisclosed injury.”
  • Sophomore linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. sustained a high ankle injury against Virginia Tech and Butch Jones said he expects Kirkland Jr. to return against Alabama.
  • Sophomore defensive back Micah Abernathy was wearing a walking boot prior to the game but ended up playing.
  • Senior center Dylan Wiesman went out after a hit knocked his helmet off in the first quarter.
  • Junior offensive lineman Jashon Robertson left with an unspecified injury in the fourth quarter.
  • Redshirt senior defensive lineman Danny O’Brien was carted off on a stretcher after a scary head/neck injury. O’Brien was reportedly moving all four extremities and flew back with the team after being evaluated further.
  • Redshirt junior defensive lineman Kendal Vickers left the game in the fourth quarter with an unspecified injury.
  • Junior linebacker Cortez McDowell left the game in the third quarter with an unspecified injury.
  • Defensive backs Evan Berry, Malik Foreman, and Emmanuel Moseley all went down with apparent injuries at different points but all returned to play later in the game.
Obviously, with Coach Jones providing no additional information on any of these injuries, we don’t know the status of the affected players in relation to their availability for Saturday’s game against Alabama. We’ll keep you updated if and when any information emerges.

Jeebus.

All those injuries calls for a tl;dr.

Predicting a mercy rule running clock in half2.

Umm, no sir. I hope 'Bama pounds them into oblivion by our 3rd team because they need the experience, especially at beating UT.

If we're up 45-3 at half, our 3s might indeed play with a running clock in 2nd half.

They'll need far more than a golden horseshoe up their collective ass to even hang with us the first 30 mins.
I don't care how much we get up on UT; our third string in large masses better not see the field. I would think by now everyone has seen you can't be up on UT by enough; if you let off the gas on them they will get back into the game. They've done it in every game this year. They may have came up short Saturday but Tennessee did come back from a pretty good deficit. If I'm Coach I'm playing this game as if the game is tied even if I have a four possession lead in the fourth quarter. Install into the players all week that no matter how much we're ahead you can't play "content" football or they will work there way back into this game. There will be a need like no other game we've played this year to play a complete 60 minute game.

One of Alabama's defensive backs said their selves that they played poorly by giving up a lot of passing yards and points and Nick pretty much said the same thing himself. I think the defense will play lights out against 10rc. The game won't be close and we will get to see Alabama once again being the ones to light up the cigars after the game. :bamadance:
