🏈 It's funny when they whine about insignificant things

being a member of another forum that has a college football section, it's funny reading some of the things that other people say about 'BAMA.

the forum overall is not about sports, just this little section. and it gets some decent traffic; especially during the season. but reading through some of the comments made in the past couple days is kind of funny. i'll post some of them here.....

these first 2 were said by the same person
Clemson should be #1.

Clemson won the National Championship and then defeated three top-15 teams so far this season. bama lost the NC, they are 4-0 but against insignificant teams. How is Clemson not #1? bama should not even play a season and just rename the playoffs "who plays bama" bowls. I bet they could lose two games and still be in the top 4 while the teams that beat them were left out.

Saban always gets the benefit of the doubt.

I suppose in bama's defense, Florida St was highly ranked at the time they played them. That was the game Fl State's qb got injured and that pretty much ended their season.

now i haven't replied to any of them because i'm just not that person. i don't get into the whole "shit-talking" thing unless it gets personal (which it has a couple times and i stepped in to defend my coach and my team).

but here's my take on this whole thing.... what the hell does it matter who's number 1 right now? to me, all that should matter is if you're in the top 4 at the end of the season. if you're in the top 4, then you're in the playoffs and you have a chance to win it all.

look at the nfl, 10 times wildcard teams have made it to the super bowl. and 6 of those teams have won it. so it's not like you don't have a chance if you're lower than #1. all that matters is how you play your game.

in major league baseball, wildcard teams have won the world series a total of 6 times. and 3 of those were won in a row.

and now let's take a look at the college football playoffs so far...

in 2014, ohio state was ranked #4. and they won it all by beating us and oregon.
in 2015, we were ranked #2. and we won it all by beating michigan state and clemson
in 2015, clemson was ranked #2. and they won it all by beating ohio state and us.

so in the 3 years that college football has had a playoff system, the #1 team, at that time, did NOT go on to win the national championship.

i'd say the odds are in their favor by NOT being ranked #1.

but what do i know? i'm only looking at actual history.

I too think Clemson should be number one considering the product they have put on the field and how impressive their wins are against ranked opponents.

The main reason I would like for them to be number one is because we do better when we have something to go for. If they flipped us with Clemson and made them number one, I'm sure Saban would use that as motivation for the team as a form of disrespect. "They" don't think your worthy of being called a champion, etc...

Also I hope it is us and Clemson in the finals. I like our chances at redemption.

I'm not there yet. It's not about the product Clemson is putting on the field, it's the lingering question marks I have about the teams they've played.

If you want to put the Auburn feather in their cap, okay. But Louisville and Va Tech? I'm still in a holding pattern on all three, but especially the last two.

September of '99 was the last time Auburn beat LSU in Baton Rouge. They beat them handily; 40 something to 7 as I recall.

I also recall Auburn immediately went on a five game losing streak in conference play, got their emotions up when a win over a ranked UGA only to find themselves losing to the eventual SEC Champ, Bama.

(Should I mention Troy and UAB have won in BR since '99?)

I'm not putting AU over LSU, but I will be looking closely at the way that game opens.

The cool thing is that it really seems like Bama and Clemson are destined for a rubber match. It's real life and not a movie so it probably won't happen but right now Clemson is playing like a team that feels disrespected because people doubt them. Bama is playing like a team that is hungry as hell to right the wrongs from last season's end. The story writes itself. Only thing that could make it possibly more perfect would have been if Watson stayed for his senior season.

Bama 16 was one of the great teams ever in CF......certainly one of the greatest Ds....
And DW stuck a dagger in it....
Best player beat the best team..
Although...if you have the will.....it wasntDW whwas really MVP....it was Renfro....
He saved that game to get DW a chance to win it...
