🏈 Importance of backups

Looking at this weekends game with FIU I think its pretty obvious that we are the far superior team in every aspect and we should have plenty of snaps on both sides of the ball for the 2nd and 3rd teams. With that said I know we all want to see what players like Trent and Dre can do but from a team stand point and looking into the rest of the season which positions do you think are the most important for our backups to get reps in and why?

Personally I think the most obvious are QB, OL, and LB and trying to pick just one is very difficult but ultimately I am going to go with LB on this one. We all know that we have 2 of the best LB’s in the country with McClain and Hightower and both have shown to be very durable and able to sustain a high level of play throughout the games but I really don’t see anyway that McClain comes back next year for his senior season since he is projected as an early 1st rounder and I would think we see the same situation with Hightower next season.

On top of this I would love to see the confidence be built on the backups that in a game versus a team like FL that is going to require a great deal of focus and energy from our LB that we could give them some small breaks if needed so they do not wear down late in the game. What say you?

For me, I want to see some of those young DBs in the game quickly along with the OL. Trnt will get plenty of carries as the season goes in some of our bigger games.OL and DB development are the 2 biggest areas for me.
