| FTBL IF the AP poll doesn't mean anything, why does ESPN use it?

ESPN wants to be kinda like the Walmart of college football. They wanna be able to dictate their opinions and ideas all across the country therefore nobody else's opinions matter.

Walmart? Sounds more like a Republican than a retail chain. :D

wait, i thought the AP poll is factored into the BCS ranking formula. no?

not sure if this addresses your question, but i think one reason media uses two college football polls is to attract a wider audience. networks can increase their viewership by using a more favorable ranking for their matchups when differences exit between the polls. then you have the BCS poll that emerges later in the year that offer another set of rankings that can be used to hype up a game and bolster its relevance.

then again, the lingering of the AP poll might also be for tradition's sake.

AP poll has been out of the BCS for several years now...replaced by the Harris Poll.

I don't understand the thought process behind 2 polls attract a wider audience. If there was a great difference in the two, maybe. But, very rarely are there one or two spots difference between the two. IE: AP 24 vs Coaches 26 for Bama.

NOW, end of the year?!?! We could see Pt. duex for the '03 year with USC and LSU.
