| NEWS I keep seeing RIP for SI?

I may be off but I think most of us would treat others with a reasonable degree of respect regardless of their politics or views even those we oppose. I know I try to as is expected of me as a Christian. I think the social media provides people with a path to vent frustrations or at least show no constraint. I also think we are on a moral decay in our world as is predicted in the Christian bible. It does not mean I hate anyone by saying that it means I believe the teachings of what I claim to be. The Christian bible also call me to love even my enemies so I cannot align with those teachings and also show hate to anyone.

The left demands people be treated equally is what you mean.

You know how the Chevron ruling is going to go and what it’s going to do it…..a right wing court….doesn’t take much intelligence to understand
No, that's not what I meant at all. The left does not want all treated equally. That would mean the left valued individual rights and merit over group identities. The left eliminates honors classes because the classes are not sufficiently diverse - as if a math test is racist. The left chooses to exclude a qualified Asian college applicant due to an overabundance of qualified Asians, choosing to admit a less-qualified Black. The left reduces time-tested underwriting standards (loan-to-value ratios, credit scores, income verification, joint applicants, spec/investment properties, multifamily properties), and then sues mortgage lenders for following them, and has the taxpayer pick up the cost after each boom-and-bust cycle.

Equity in outcome, not treated equally. Harrison Bergeron meets Sports Illustrated.

Ah but the "wonderful" minds of SHRM have added yet another letter to DEI as my VP of HR is in lockstep with that organization. Now, its DEI and B. The B stands for "belonging". Can't wait to see where they are going with that one.

I think so many people miss the mark on so many issues. Not every issue is as black and white as some would have you believe.

Using immigration as an example. My hope is that noone on here hates the illegal immigrants coming in because you have prejudice beliefs about all Spanish people. I know I don't. I am not against illegal immigration because of someone's skin color or nationality; instead it is because of other issues I have with it.
Regarding the lgybt and the Jewish/Muslim issues. I don't think most of us should just say we hate all non straight people or either all Jewish or all Muslims. In various ways, we hate the way that we are being labeled if our opinions are different. We hate the way people are rioting and holding public events calling for the destruction of Israel.
I would say that hopefully 100 percent of us are against child porn and sexualizing kids, but yet it seems like there is a lot of people who think it's ok to have sexual books in school libraries and mutilate kids who FEEL like they are in the wrong body. Hell I feel like shit sometimes but that doesn't mean I want to be turned into a turd.

And let's think about this. How can there possibly be so called leftist equality when drag shows are allowed in schools, yet they are most of the same ones who would pitch a fit if schools were holding prayer or hiring Christian counselors.

Trans people being allowed to compete with women in sports. Dumb equality. Wanting the best pilot on your plane regardless whether he is a Republican former Alabama player or a green, bisexual auburn player. This is what true normal equality should be

Equality means everyone gets the same level of opportunity. Equity means the results are distributed so that there isn’t more of one group versus another. That’s where the problem comes in. To make the results equitable, it requires that some with less experience or skills get chosen over those with high levels of experience and skill. United Airlines’ CEO recently announced that gender and racial quotas are one of his main considerations when determining who will fly his planes. Knowledge and experience are less important.

This is why people are fed up. I get some people have been oppressed over the years so they are starting out disadvantaged. Provide paths for people to overcome this through education, discipline and hard work and do not discriminate when hiring.
That’s what affirmative action did. It gave educational opportunities to minorities with lower academic achievement.

I'm gonna ignore your first paragraph because it has zero to do with anything I said.

What did they "push?" Diversity? No that did not lead to their "demise." I already laid out part of it. It's a fact that the new owners have been beefing with the union. It's a fact that they have moved away from award-winning writers in favor of using freaking AI, which hurt BADLY. Print media is unfortunately - especially at a national level - a dying business. All of that ties into it. Everyone does this "go woke go broke" nonsense and then weirdly rejoices when perception meets their reality. Disney has strong female leads, when one bombs that means Disney is dying. Meanwhile the company continues to rake in insane profits. Same for ESPN even when cable/sattelite TV is dying quicker than anything else. Conservatives had a hissy fit about Bud Light because they had some deal - which wasn't even anything major - with a gay or trans (I dont even know) influencer and what did it accomplish? Some billionaires lost some money and what? Coors picked up the sales that Bud Light lost, yet Coors does whole ass rainbow colored cans for Pride month. It accomplished nothing and was silly and matters zero in life. It's the same exact thing with SI featuring a trans athlete. It affects yours nor my life in any way, shape, form or fashion.
With SI, it has been a death of 1000 cuts; all self inflicted.

I believe your timeline for their demise is off. Yes, you are right. Moving to the AI generated content was one of the last nails being pulled out of their coffin to see what's inside.

At some point there was a conscious decision to move away from covering rebounds to covering pronouns. I'd argue their demise started around the same time we saw Colin kneeling on the cover.

IF I were a business major, this story definitely affects me. Horrible business decisions. Literally, the swimsuit issue sold millions: far more than their subscription base. It's only been in the last couple of years (when Day came in) that they've jumped the shark on this print issue.

I mean, come on. Who the hell wants to see Martha Stewart on the cover? Am I buying an SI issue to find out how to cook quiche?

Nobody is buying SI at any point other than swimsuit one, that’s been the case for far longer than Colin kneeling.

Ad revenue for SI dropped from over 100 million dollars (in print) in 2015 to just over 50 million in 2017. The cover was published in 2016.

Time Inc. thought ad revenue (digital) would make a difference. It didn't.

They were sold to another company that published magazines like Southern Living. They cut their publications numbers around the same time. (I mentioned quiche on purpose.)

People may not like what they see. The decline happened in 2016. The revenue numbers demonstrate that. Advertisers fled.

Are folks in willful denial?

Gotta be.
