🧑‍🍳 I have gotten a lot of great recipes on here!

My last two large orders (both this month) were a murphy bed from Costco and a mattress from Sam's. The bed was 400 pounds, was on sale for $500+ off, came in four boxes and required extensive assembly. Some of the reviews said it was a multi-day effort for two people. I had my Milwaukee power tools to help me (multitool to cut the baseboard, ratchet and drill for assembly), so my wife and I did it in about 4 1/2 hours, including the baseboard cut/removal. If I had to use manual open open end and allen wrenches, and a screwdriver it would've taken much longer. The mattress was a hybrid in a box to go on the bed, queen on sale for about $400. Both free shipping. Those are things I don't mind ordering. It's not like I'm going to walk the aisle and pick one out.

Groceries, though, I just can't get past that. We went to Publix this week, just to get things we thought might be on sale, look at the meats and such. Pork chops (BOGO), chicken, cabbage, corn, salsa, guac, some canned goods, etc. - all on sale - plus a 12-pack of beer because I hate to pay their six-pack prices. Almost everything we bought was on sale. The total was $99 and change (including tax), and the "savings" total was $49. Remove the beer ($19 and not on sale) and pure groceries were $80, less tax say about $74 with $49 in savings. We were there 20 minutes, it was part of a bank trip, another appointment and then grabbing groceries. Effortless, informed, comfortable with the quality, pleased with the service. Saw folks we knew, plus we catch up with the help, so there was a social piece. All that being said, paying full price for things at Publix without leaning on their sale items is like carrying a balance on your credit card.

Walmart isn't as fun to go to, but I try to make that trip when I've already crossed the interstate to work out, eat at Buffalo Wild Wings or make a Home Depot pilgrimage. Dog food and treats, some dry goods (Quaker rolled oats are Quaker rolled oats), oil filters, etc. Functional purchases of fungible goods at the lowest price.

If it saved me enough money I'd use Walmart the same way but I know what's going to happen if I don't go in alone, 2 items turn into 25 items and didn't need 23 of them. Even going alone is annoying as instead of walking to get the items I need I end up walking around the whole store trying to figure out where they put stuff this week. Their business model works well and I understand it but I don't like it so usually the few bucks I would've saved just ain't worth the aggravation or extra time.

Ah Ha! This is one way @It Takes Eleven and I are alike. I like to pick my own groceries. Hardly ever buy things not on sale, unless something in particular is needed. Also combine trips, often making several stops for other purposes. I will sometimes go to 2 or 3 grocery stores looking for bargains. After all, I am mostly a home body and to me, money is a tool to be used wisely.
I hit Costco and Publix, today. And of course I forgot a couple things at Publix since I didn't mark them on my list. So now I gotta go back. But I'm going to stop on the way home from work on Monday. I don't like to get out 2 days in a row if I don't absolutely have to. Plus, I drive by the Publix on my way home from work, so it makes it easier to do it then rather than go out tomorrow.

We have a local grocery store; well, he has like 4/5 around here. Two here in this county and the others close to us. So about every day the store would have the veg/fruits in a $1.00+ buggy. On Monday is when the other stuff will go on sale. One time I got bacon for $1.99 as the guy was just marking it down. It was one that cost $15.00 or more.

I feel like I'm hammering a point. I don't go to the store. I haven't been in a box store in ... geez. I don't know. I literally don't know the last time I've been in a box store. I need a dishwasher and I fear I'm in on that road. I do not want to go to the store. @UAgrad93 it ain't gonna be Lowe's...as much as I hate the orange.
Bitch. "The ringing of the division bell has begun." My grass is greener.

I go to Walmart. The pickers grabbing bent cans look like extras from a zombie parade. Yes, I'll pick my own bananas.

Have you ever heard of hand washing them? I do our dishes by hand. I can count how many dishwashers we have had over 50+ years of marriage on one hand. Two of those came with the Housing we live at on Ft Benning, the other an apartment we live in. Two portable ones.

Same reason I'll never, ever, use a food delivery service like Door Dash or Uber Eats.
And I get those from the market. We have had this conversation. Literally, a farmers market open every day of the week here.

I gotta ask. Canned what? I have my hurricane cans and that's it. I'm throwing that out in March. Annually.

I gotta ask. Why would you go to Walmart? They don't mess up Charmin. The charcoal is the same. While I don't find any of you two stupid, this is. Maybe I am. I see it worth $100 a year to have my dog food at my door step.

I'll spend my $100 elsewhere. I don't buy tp from walmart. Costco. Some food items I get from Costco, depending upon availability and need, always coffee. I still consider grocery shopping a participatory activity. I have no aversion to canned goods and other dry goods, and I'll pick them out. Where do you get your eggs? Your meat? Your milk? Juice? Damned if I'd let them pick my milk expiration, they started flipping the expiration dates around in the cooler so you can't see them. I'll buy frozen veggies, generally not from walmart. I'm not kidding, you say you never go to walmart. Perhaps you'd want to look at who - and how - your stuff is getting pulled. All your veggies come from a farmers market? North Charleston one day a week (Thursdays 3pm-7pm, set your alarm), then Hanahan, Mount Pleasant, West Ashley, that's driving all over town, and seasonal. I'm not enough of a connoisseur to chase things like that. We'll just be different.

Even when I was working 50+ hours a week, I still had time to snag my own groceries. That's certainly not changed over the past year. Buying groceries with my wife has become a collaboration, talking about what we want as we browse Publix sale items, developing menus. It's fun. She worked her rear off this past week, helping me clear brush and moving some firewood. Fun. We both still get solitary time, and individual pursuits. Heck, she was happy for me to go to Scotland hiking by myself, and she's glad I scored a backcountry permit to hike Grand Teton this year. She'll do a girls trip to New York, she works The Mart in Atlanta several times a year, girls nights each month. It all folds in.

Same reasons IT11 stated... I don't want someone else (much less those order pickers) choose which grapes, cherry tomatoes, and english cucumbers I want. Half the time on the last 2, even I have a hard time finding any that are worthy to eat. Also, on stuff like milk, sour cream, bacon, cheese, etc. I check for expiration dates. They don't. And I'd guess that about 10% of the "cold" stuff at my local Walmart(s) are out of date already (based on my experience). I do use Walmart delivery on other stuff, non food stuff. But I usually use the "shipping" option not the "delivery" option to save money. But if they deliver the wrong thing, which happens, it then turns into a pain in the ass to get a credit. But I have no issue with them bringing me paper towels, a pack of Sharpies, aluminum foil, etc. Still, it's a service I don's use very often.

On the fast food delivery stuff like Uber Eats... Again... seeing these people, I don't want them handling my food and drink. I don't want them touching it. I don't want it in their nasty cars. I don't want them vaping or smoking weed around it. Plus, there is no reason I can't pick the food up myself. I can by lazy at times, but not so lazy that I need Eugene to deliver some quarter pounders to my front door.

Okay. Ya got me here. I drink a shit load of apple juice. I get that from the W. I switch from coffee to apple juice in the morning. You got me or orange juice. Eggs are local. As in a block away. I have put his chickens back in his yard because they jumped the fence. Literally.

More miles have been put on the truck because of grocery runs. We don't take the car because we're stupidly anal about food.

@50+yeartidefan you see what time it is?

I appreciate, and respect, the wife thing in the store...I havent' been there or done that...so to speak...but it is fun. I have shared my memories of Bruno's on McFarland. It's the only time that store was worth the trip. No one was in there.

What is that store in Northport? I can't think of the name of the street...if Im looking at a map it's on the left. It was a remane of the Hwy.

You don't have me here. There is no doubt it's where I order. I haven't had anything delivered that was out of date. It's because I order from the W at the base. They don't fuck with the food for the Army, the Navy, the Air Force. It doesn't happen. I ordered some lanterns from the Supercenter..but my food comes from the store that supplies the base.

The base. The whole story changes here, doesn't it? You guys don't get the service I do.
