Over the last decade I am -

3-7 vs Bama
3-8 vs UGA
3-7 vs LSU
1-4 vs Clemson
0-1 vs FSU
0-1 vs Oklahoma
0-1 vs UCF
0 CFB Playoffs appearances
...and I just got a HUGE raise.

Who am I?

Those are some harsh numbers... they have won some big games.....
The 2 miricle wins vs uga n bama in 13 are.....unbelievable...
But the Gus Bus has been 7-6 and 8-5s.....other then that yea....nothing to change...

Without a doubt, the one person on the staff that has saved Gus from football purgatory is Kevin Steele. When he left Alabama I thought his effort as DC at Clemson was terrible. Even when he was at LSU for a short stay it was not much to brag about. But, his transformation at the barn has been nothing short of amazing. He has done a much better job than his predecessor, the surly one, Will Muschamp. Steele has not only saved his job but that enormous raise gus just received would never have happened. Same has been true of Fulmer at Tennessee and Les Miles at LSU with the Chief. Never worked out for the Chief at A&M. That was weird and kinda makes you wonder if he has the offensive scheme at Arkansas to be successful there as well?

Gus getting a raise and contract extension is good for Alabama. If Gus continues to deliver mediocre teams, eventually he'll be fired (with many years of payout included). As a result, Auburn will never be able to afford the elite coaching talent they'll need to get them into the playoffs. IMO, Gus is seriously overpaid for what he has delivered. Yes, he's had a few spectacular games that make him look good (kick-6, prayer in Jorden-Hare, beating UGA and Alabama in 2017), but he hasn't consistently delivered a championship team. When you're competing against big brother, you need to deliver championships.

I have been hating on The Barn since 1958 and intend to take that with me All The Way (Frank Sinatra) to the pine box. You have to give Guz credit for he has beat Bama more than the rest. His offensive scheme must be very difficult for the Bama defense to defend since we struggle with them when they have a better than average team. When playing the Barn at their gig Bama doesn't match the emotion that AU brings from the get go to that game. I understand Nick's business approach to every game but that one game is a problem.

the way i see it, the coordinators emulate the head coach. if the head coach is successful, then they will be successful, as well. it's not always the case, but i think most times it is. with a coach like Kevin Steele going to a place like auburn with a coach like malzahn, he brings his coordinators, and, but extension, the other coaches, down to his level. a coordinator can only do so much. the head coach is responsible for every play called on the field during a game. the coordinator may call the play, but at the end of the day the head coach is responsible. and if your head coach isn't a power player (i.e., Nick Saban), then you get what you paid for. and you have no one to blame but yourself and your short-sighted views on how the game is really played.

but...but...but....they do win championships. they won the State of Alabama championship. just look at their decorations they put up.

what i find hilarious is gene chizick has won more than gus malzahn. obviously not total numbers-wise....but at least he won an SEC and a national championship.....paid for, or not....

Gus is that proverbial blind squirrel finding a nut. He will win a big game or two but isn't consistent enough to be deserving of that contract extension no the $7 million a year salary. Gus is A LOT like UCF. Not consistent, but then pulls a rabbit out of his ass once and expects to be nationally recognized.

But the good part is that whenever Gus is fired, the next coach will expect (and probably get) $7 million. At least with Alabama and Saban, the university has five NC to point to as to why he was paid so much.

Gus overall as a head coach at the Barn.
2013 - 12-2 almost got the ring
2014 - 8-5
2015 - 7-6
2016 - 8-5
2017 - 10-4
Average = 9-4
1 SEC championship and 1 NC appearance.

All this is now worth $49,000,000 on the crappiest plains village people.

And blowout loss to Ok in Sugar. Bowl....
Loss to non- power 5 in bowl
Loss to big 10 team in bowl
Loss to Acc team in bowl ( sorry miracles all used up)
And finally...a win vs non power 5 in bowl ....Birmingham Bowl
.....did i miss anything?

I'll be honest, I wish I had his luck. I honestly feel like I could win eight games a year with their recruiting and maybe one year pay a guy enough to come in and lead my team to ten wins like they did Newton. Bam, new contract, I could run off with the guaranteed money and never be bothered again.

But money is the root of all evil....it is so said....( I think its women)...
