I'll be honest, I wish I had his luck. I honestly feel like I could win eight games a year with their recruiting and maybe one year pay a guy enough to come in and lead my team to ten wins like they did Newton. Bam, new contract, I could run off with the guaranteed money and never be bothered again.

right?

i've always said they can pay me the league minimum for the nfl and i'll just sit on the bench like the half the team does anyway.

and the league minimum is $450k. to sit there. hell, i'd do it for half that (even though it's a "minimum" salary).

oh...and i'd damn sure stand during the National Anthem. i'd even grab a flag and run up and down the field with it during the playing of it. i'd get some fans riled up real good.

the way i see it, the coordinators emulate the head coach. if the head coach is successful, then they will be successful, as well. it's not always the case, but i think most times it is. with a coach like Kevin Steele going to a place like auburn with a coach like malzahn, he brings his coordinators, and, but extension, the other coaches, down to his level. a coordinator can only do so much. the head coach is responsible for every play called on the field during a game. the coordinator may call the play, but at the end of the day the head coach is responsible. and if your head coach isn't a power player (i.e., Nick Saban), then you get what you paid for. and you have no one to blame but yourself and your short-sighted views on how the game is really played.

That's why I mentioned the right scheme for Chavis at Arkansas. Seems like a terrible fit for him. When Les Miles hired Chavis his team was in big trouble. They had tried the co-defensive coordinators and they were running the Crowton offensive, which meant spreading the ball out a lot. They were giving up a ton of yards and points. Two things happened, they hired Chavis and Miles went conservative with his offensive principles again. Back to the power I and don't turn it over. Punt and play field position. With the talent they brought in, it really was one of the best jobs of coaching that the Chief did during his long career. If you remember, Will Muschamp told Gus that he wouldn't come as a DC to the barn if he didn't slow his pace of play. They have. I don't think the barn's offense has resembled the Chip Kelly teams so much in time of possession for a while. It has allowed Steele's defense to get off the field and like LSU, it has saved some HC jobs.
